I'm aiming to get my electric bill sorted one way or another. I know its not exactly MSE, but if they're not going to take a fortune back I think I'd actually like to have a prepayment meter - I'm still having problems with the bank and I don't want to set up a DD until I know I can cover it every month. At least with a meter I could put a few quid on as required, and it would be easier to budget.

  • Last week:
    • I aimed to spend no more than £100 on everything (travel, food etc)
-- and failed miserably. Total this week is an appalling £142.05. Still, at least I know exactly where it's going.

    • I aimed to take lunch into work at least once out of the three days I was in
-- and didn't succeed. But I managed a nice no-spend day on Thursday.

    • I aimed to throw at least £200 at my overdraft on pay day
-- and doubled it! My debt-free date has now come forward a whole month.

    Next week:
    • Send invoice for £600 of working from home I've done this week. This will go towards my overdraft challenge when it gets paid (see signature)

    • Make a trip to Brighton (from London) sometime mid-week to start looking at flats and check the journey is bearable

    • Usual spending target: £100 tops

    • Cut down on drinking, especially drinking at home. No more than 21 units.

    • Travel by bus instead of train to save money

    • Ask at work whether I can work more flexible hours (enabling me to get cheap daily train ticket from Brighton if I move there)

    • Chase up Egg - who still haven't send me a replacement Egg Money card

    Hi All!
    Last week:

Take a packed lunch to work every day. Achieved - forgot to take it to work one day, but ate it for tea instead.
4 no spend days. Managed only 3
£10 cash withdrawal on payday (27th). Did not need to do this as mum paid me in cash for some stuff I got her at Costco.
£40 household shopping budget for Wednesday (main shop). :rotfl: - see reference to Costco above :o
5 alcohol free days (detoxing!). Managed this one though.
Set a budget and plan for Christmas purchases. Done. Most of Christmas shopping now done too.

So this week, and for the next 4 weeks, I will need to be ultra disciplined.

Packed lunch for work every day.
    6 No spend days.
    5 Alcohol free days.
    No visits to cash machine.
No visits to Town, Costco or any other place where I may be parted from any money.
No online shopping. (apart from the £15 I just spent on two snuggly throws for the sofas)

Have a good moneysaving week everyone! ;)

  • Well, last weeks goals went like this:

Take ALL lunch to work - managed this each day (although my buddy and I cheated yesterday by calling at Mc D's with her BOGOF vouchers)

Search scrapyards for car part - did this and saved about £70 on buying new.

No takeaways - managed this though it was a struggle to work, decorate and cook!

Pay in cheque - done - so bank balance looks better.

    For this week:

Finish decorating using up all odds-n-sods of paint, varnish etc and not buying any new.

No cash withdrawals (have £20 in purse to cover school dinners and bits).

Stick only to stuff on shopping list & menu plan.

Get DD to do eyebrows (tint & shape) rather than visit to beautician.

    Good Luck Everyone.

Okay - I don't think I did all that well last week..... let's see
    1) Get back on the DFW wagon - trying to. I didn't go into my overdraft at all this month if that's an indicator
    2) Start my spending diary all over again - Failed miserably
    3) £15 maximum spend on fripperies this week Another fail - linked to 2 above I have no idea what I did spend
    4) Lunch to work x 3 - Managed 2 so not that bad
    5) 2 no spend weekdays Managed one
    6) Give myself a face pack Nope, no time
    7) Put some fake tan on to make myself look less blue now that London is having another mini summer Ditto 7 above
    8) Reply to email from friends I haven't seen since Uni and sort out meeting up Nope, too busy at work
    9) Get JD and advertisement done for the vacant post in my team. YES!! I did actually do this one!!!
    10) Swimming 3 times this week - starting tonight Managed twice
    11) Submit expenses (c £300! ) Yep - came to 340 and has now been paid.... lovely!!

So.... let's see, my goals for this week are.

    1) New month, new spending diary
    2) Lunch to work three days
    3) 2 no spend days
    4) List two items on ebay
    5) Swimming three times this week
