Tesco..bigger packs don't mean bigger savings

Went into Tesco today. Was looking at choccie bikkies (Penguin, club type ones) noticed that a pack of 6 Breakaway were 40p, a pack of 12 were £1.34! So I bought 3 packs of 6 (18) for £1.20!
Girl at the checkout said that it happens a lot, so check things first, sometimes big packs don't mean bigger savings!

I usually buy tesco classic coffee £2.48 for 300gm, however just recently it's been just £1.24 for 200gm so been better off getting the smaller one. Some people see the glass half full, others see the glass half empty - the enlightened are simply grateful to have a glass0

This week noticed the same applied to toilet tissue, largest pack more expensive than next size down. This despite 2 extra rolls "free"! Always check price per 100 sheets/price per 100g,etc.Worry is like a rocking horse,it takes a lot of energy but gets you nowhere.0

If you're on a tight budget you could always compare prices online at tesco.com. Its easier to read and compare and you can also print out your shopping list.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

I noticed recently that two 250ml bottles of Carex antibacterial handwash is some 20p cheaper than a single 500ml bottle, again at Tesco. When I shop at Morrisons it is also [marginally] cheaper to buy 2 of the small containers of OXO gravy granules (not the cubes) than 1 of the containers exactly twice the size.0

also worth checking out the price per kg of various items.
for example ... tesco own brand dishwasher powder is approx £1.75 per kg but if you buy a premium brand in tablet form, the most expensive I've seen is £9.52 per kg !!! As soon as I noticed this I switched to powder .... it works just as well !!!0 -
The Sunday Times did an investigation on this type of scam last year and Tesco were amongst the worst offenders. They found many cases where large or multi packs worked out to be more expensive.
Also, don't get too excited if Tesco Express is coming to your neighborhood, the prices are higher than at Tesco supermarkets.
For example at our local Tesco Express Fairy Washing up liquid 500ml is 92p. On Tesco Price Check the price is 88p.0 -
Also, just because fruit / veg comes loose doesn't mean it's cheaper than pre-packed ones. But what the supermarkets try to do is put the price on one in Kg, on another in 100g (easy to convert), or per item on another so making it difficult to campare actual prices....0

I used Iceland online this weekend, and i like the facility to compare items by unit cost, that makes it very clear, and easy to make a lot of savings then.
I compare things by price/weight, its the only way. I noticed the cheap breakaways in tesco too. Im proud of my daughter because she bought a 6 pack of tesco economy chocolate wafers because she got more for her pocket money than just getting one standard choccy bar. And she shared them.Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

If you buy your bacon from Aldi watch out, 2x200g Pack Back Bacon Unsmoked £1.99 , or buy 1x250gm pack for 89p so buy two single packs for £1.78 and you get 100gm extra0

I also always compare price per kg etc. Tesco do try to confuse you though by showing their own product as price per weight and brand product as price each (i.e. cake bars). Anyway if I am stuck I use the calculator on my mobile
