Lemons are good

Options
Lemons are particularly good for cleaning stainless steel sinks. Once you have squeezed out the juice for your recipe, keep the skins and use to rub all around the taps and over the sink surface. Then just rinse with water and you have a nice shiny sink. It works on stainless steel cooker tops too.

Also good to rub on your hands to get rid of the smell if you are preparing fish.

And just before you are about to chuck it out, rub the skin over your chopping board to make it nice and fresh.:D

They are also absolutely fantastic for cleaning white sinks, especially any mysterious stubborn stains. Just rubbing a mark with the side of a cut lemon will make it disappear - or if it's really stubborn leaving the lemon in contact with it for an hour or two does the trick.
  • Yeah I love lemons for cleaning too, often picked up reduced in the supermarket.

for stains on kitchen worktops and fridges or freezer interiors - squeeze a little lemon juice onto the stain, leave for a few moments to soak in then add a pinch of bicarbonate of soda, rub into the stained area and rinse.

teacup stains can be removed by rubbing with salt and lemon juice.

  • Not sure I'd use a lemon skin to clean my chopping board AFTER wiping the sink with it?

    :)

does it work with oranges too ?
  • When you've finished squeezing your lemon and rubbed all available surfaces with it:rolleyes:;) put it in the cutlery basket of your dishwasher, to degrease and make the dishywasher smell fresh:T
  • We use it to clean our Stainless steel Kettle and it's lovely when we boil it as it releases the smell.

Oooh tell me more - inside or out? Our stainless steel kettle is always a bit 'foggy' looking on the outside. I tried vinegar.. works ok but a bit smelly...

On the outside, lemony coffee wouldn't be very nice, lol.
I actually used to use windolene on it, which also made nasty smells, lol! now I wait until it's cooled down after boiling, but is still warm and give it a good scrub with lemon juice squeezed onto a J cloth. It works wonders.

  • Queen Anthea said last night about chopping a lemon in two and putting it in the microwave for 1 minute to break up the grease - apparently you should be able to just wipe it clean afterwards - haven't tried this yet though - no lemons at the mo
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)
  • or you can use them to get rid of limescale at the end of your taps - take the cut lemon and just stick it over the end of the tap for a couple of hours. You need to use and elastic band or piece of string to get it to stay on, but it works a treat !
