I've just had a phonecall from someone at Studio 64 saying I've won a free makeover and photo shoot.
Is this for real, cos it sounded like a scam to me, or just not very "free" at the least.
She was trying to bully me into making an appointment, when i said I didn't want to book straiht away, as I needed to check with OH when he would be able to look after the kids, she got a bit shirty with me.

I had the same experience! I felt really bad, because I kept asking all the way through the phone call if it was for real. But the woman was talking so fast that I felt something wasn't quite right about it. When I agreed to go for the makeover, she said that she needed my credit card details, for a "deposit". There's no way that if a company is giving you a prize they need to take a deposit, so I apologized and said (quite truthfully) that I couldn't afford it. The woman I spoke to was fairly persistent, giving me all sorts of options to call back and pay later. I did feel bad later on, because I found that I had entered the competition, and it says that you need to put down a deposit in the T&Cs, but there was something not quite right about the whole experience. I've stopped entering competitions for the moment!Overpay!0 -
I won this a few years ago. They will give you a free make over by doing your make up and then putting your hair up nice (without cutting it). You will look really lovely and then they will take some lovely photos of you. Then they will show you the pics on a comp screen and ask if you want any of them. But they are EXPENSIVE, I mean like £700 for a set of 5  They will give you the HARD sell. Then they will make you take all the make up off and put your hair back how it was. So you will leave the place looking exactly how you did when you went in.
If you treat it as having a fun afternoon out and are thick skinned and will put up with about an hour of the hard sell you will be fine. But the people that do the make up are not qualified make up artists or beauticians (like me) and TBH they don't do a very good job.

Thanks for that. I don't think i'll be booking an appointment with them LOL. Yes even though the woman was telling about this "free" day out I was getting, I definitely got the impression that it was going to cost me a LOT of money:)0

Yes, this rings a bell! I was asked to go to a studio in Regent street, at my own travel expence. Have the make-up done and have a free glass of wine.
Then pay for portraits. Sadly- I declined. If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

I also remember that when I won it I couldnt say yes straight away as I needed to sort out if I could get a babysitter and even if I could afford the train fair. So I asked them if I could have a number to call back and they got really stroppy and said "Look do you want to come or not?". In the end I went but it was a wasted journey. The stupid thing was that at the time I was working as a make up artist and I was going to ask if they had any freelance work for me but they basically just laughed in my face.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

I agreed to go as they said I had won the competition. I thought I would go and just have a fun day out as they said they would refund me after the photo shoot. I did enjoy but I did feel a bit pushed around. one minute ur in make up then your getting your hair done and she doesn't wash ur hair justs put hair starightners on them, then you get told to bring 3 outfits and your told how to pose.
The photos were very good though and as you had to choose them there and then I got excited and ended up buying 8 on a CD then they decided they were going to give me a set of 8 Medium sized Photo's for free. the cd was good as we could print them off/frame them and give them out as xmas presents.
But when I was having my make up done I noticed they didn't change the foundation sponge so I was a bit weary especially when they tried to put some mascara on me I made a point of saying no. But Sadly the damage was done. I caught conjunctivitus!!!
I wouldn't do it again.0 -
My friend won this last year, luckily we don't live to far from London, so went up. Had make up done, hair done and piccies taken - the guy taking the photos was abolutely lovely.
We had to wait a while for the pictures to be ready to view, and yes, we did get the hard sell but neither of us could afford it (shame because the pictures were GORGEOUS), and then the guy showing us the pictures just seemed to lose interest in us when we said we could only afford one.
It seems really strange, Black Saturn, that you had to take all the make up off etc before leaving, we went out with the make up on, hair done, nice clothes still on, and went and took pictures ourself - a damn sight cheaper!!
Here is the picture we bought, as I said it's such a shame that we were unable to afford any more because they were lovely - looked so professional! (It's just gone a bit grainy where I resized it) I really like it as usually I hate pictures of myself.
Our experience of them was quite good, yes you do have to pay to get to where it is being held, and stay overnight if you have to, and you have to be prepared to put up with the hard sell and stick to your guns if you really can't afford more than 1, but all in all we had an enjoyable day.Blood donations to date: 10 | Type: O negative[/B][/CENTER]0
