I went today. This year instead of handing out goody bags on your way out you need to pick up one of the exhibition maps they are giving out on the way in and fill in your name and address on a tear off slip then swap that for a goody bag near the back of the exhibition. Nothing to stop you picking up another map later and filling in your details again for another one - though only if its not obvious that you have already had one!
Also worth it is buying the Top Sante magazine for £2 instead of £2.90 as it comes with a bag of freebies including hair condition worth £7 (apparantly!), a big tube of beverley hills toothpaste, some tea samples, vitamin samples, various sachets of samples, and some oat cereal and a few other bits.

The main goody bag you get free for going to the show contained a sugar free jelly, can of appletizer, packet of quavers, dorset cereal, honey and oat bars, tampax, weightwatchers biscuits, body shop moisteruiser sachet, skinny cow hot choc sachet, some sugar and tissues plus couple of other bits and a few money off vouchers on the leaflets inside. Pretty good really!

Only other tip is if you want 1 to 1 career advice from careershifters get there early and sign up for your session later in the day. They give you 15 mins but it was quite popular. Think i was lucky i just walked straight in as was early.

I went today too- had a free ticket mailed to me and took my mum along with me (got to be the first mother-daughter outing for a number of years so am very happy to Delightful Footnotes who sent me the tickets!)

Goodybags did run out last year (on the thursday at about 7pm) so make sure you pick one up when you go ASAP and anyone else reading, please do not do what I saw others doing tonight and pick up afew bags, its unfair and means others miss out.

The stands are sort of in 4 quarters, imagine two on the left, two on the right in a square shape.
First on the left is a sort of sensual massage, holistic and vibrater area.
First on the right, makeup and beauty.
Second on the left, food, many samples of bars, cheese, meat, smoothies, green tea...
Second on the right, exercise and fitness and protein bars.
There is also a whole lane of religion, jewellery, bags and other random things on the right hand side.

In the center there are a few big seated areas, a fitness court which has green flooring and had bird sound playing when all the dancers had gone, a yoga space and you can do classes there. Also a kitchen and further up a fashion catwalk.

I'd say look online, see whats going on when as there are cooking and fitness demos which happen at set times.

When your there it really depends on what your looking for. I run quite a bit so I had my Gait rechecked by Asics as normally you have to pay for this (which is subtracted from the price of the shoes they advise for you) but being free was good to see how my running gait has changed.

There are a few magazines being sold, I picked up Zest and a goodie bag for £3, Health and Fitness for £1, Womens Fitness for £2.50, there were other mags there too.

Not so many fitness clothes this year, last year John Lewis was there but not this year. Also missing were Muller who had sponsored the event the past few years and always been slap-happy with freebie yogurt and yogurt activa drinks. Not this year!

Goldwell do a hair makeover or something for £30, refunable via buying the products from their massive show salon. Benefit were 15% off, Bonjours had an offer too and there were two stands doing manicures. One was fully booked when I went to check, quite hidden halfway into the right hand side of the show, 20 mins for £5. Nails Inc were there and I think wanted £22 or something.

There is also a spa section (left hand side) didn't check the prices (my mum shelled out on a massage for me instead :D) but looked very thorough- probably expensive though maybe check it out if thats your thing, may well have cheaper prices then as normal.

Didn't see what the sk:n stand was offering, they are the first thing you see when you get into the show, had a massive queue and were busy. By the time I left the show they had all packed away (it was 9pm when we left) so maybe worth checking them out too.

Many places offer a waiting list, you give them your name, then come back in xx time so you don't have to hover for ages. Waiting lists can run out of space though so be aware when planning your time there.

Hope you have a good time- better then last years show IMO anyway!

Thought I would report back after my trip to the show yesterday, I decided not to drive because of parking so dd and I got the train and tube which really wasn't great:(we got to the show at about 12 and it was really busy, as we were hungry we headed for the food first, not much choice if you don't do carbs or don't like sausages:rotfl:I found the sales people really really pushy everywhere, one guy stopped me 4 times, being the beauty junkie I am there wasn't much to buy that I didn't already have and the goody bags just simply weren't that great, I didn't learn much from the health related stalls or even agree with much of the "facts" they were spouting also I didn't think there were enough premium brands showing, I was hoping for Nuxe and Kiehls. DD was interested in Shiatsu but the people waiting put us off, same story for the manicures and the colour me, dd had her make up done and thought she looked like a drag queen:rotfl:It sounds like I hated it which isn't the case, I just wasn't impressed at all but as usual dd and I had a good laugh and giggled through the day.

Best bits - Jelly Pong Pong - lovely staff and great goody bag, lovely hair extensions for a great price.

Worst bits , food (although I did see Aldo Zilli), pushy sales people and so called psychic readers.

I was given my tickets and also had some spare that I had won but wouldn't of been happy if I had paid for them, I'm glad I went but wouldn't go again, oh and next time I go to London I'm driving;)

The Sk:n stand was offering a very in depth 'scientific-y' thing that shows exactly what condition your skin is in and any particular problems there might be. There were about half a dozen of these machines and operatives - but a long, long queue. I would have liked to have had this done but only had a comparatively short time at the show anyway. Apparently they were giving the service in exchange for a £1 donation to charity.

On a skin note again, the Sanex stand was quite interesting. They had a little machine that they held against your skin which measured the amounts of moisture and oiliness in your skin. You were then given a 75ml sample bottle of a suitable shower gel and a 50p coupon. Also, the lady told me that if you choose to give your contact details you'll be contacted shortly to see how you liked the product. If you reply you'll get a £5 Amazon voucher :T

There was a big toothpaste stand (can't remember the brand :rotfl:) where you were given a nice, full sized toothbrush and chose one of the varieties to use to brush your teeth at one of the little sinks :)

ETA - The Penn State snack stand was offering their low fat pretzel thingies and two newer products (Sizzling Teriyaki & Jalfrezi something or other) at a price of 3 packets for £2, a saving of a third at least depending where you buy them.
Also, the Bourjois stand was offering a good selection of 'minis' at 5 for £5. Lots of lovely little nail colours, glittery eye colours, liners etc.

    HTH.

I got the sanex shower gel (two as I got the one already in the goody bag) but no offer of an amazon voucher :( I'd disagree with the lack of carb free samples- loads of protein based flapjacks, cheese, apples and the coop had a full lunch range with loads of fruit. Was hoping Maximuscle were going to sell their bars, instead they were giving away a bar but better then nothing.

Agree though re: the premium brands- or lack of, but I can imagine that they may not get their monies worth by being at the show, it seems to be loads of "bargin hunters" and these brands tend to be on the more pricey side (though Nuxe and Kiehl's are worth it!). Also wish they had more "show special" prices- things like fitflops and MBTs and reduced prices but I guess thats alot to ask!

Unfortunately I am rather strict on the carb thing and don't eat fruit because of the sugars or any kind of oats etc, I see your point on the premium brands and because I am not sporty at all quite a few of the exhibits were of no interest to me, maybe I have a warped idea of health and vitality because quite a few of the people visiting didn't look like they knew too much about weight management and we noticed quite a few people with their own sarnies etc so we are obviously novices at this;) I found it rather annoying to ask a question to a make up consultant and her not have a clue what I was talking about ditto a question on the sk:n stand, I'm no expert but these should of been basic answers for a trained professional, tbh I don't think I did us any favours taking the train and tube cos I was stressed when I arrived and even worse when leaving but hey ho live and learn:) I'm glad others that went enjoyed themselves and found the show of benefit:)

Lol- you make me smil as your actually quite similar to me- I am not as ....strictly ruled on things as you though as I have a looong history of anorexia which then developed into bulimai, became anorexia again...hopsitals and 18 months of suppored housing later, its too much work to allow myself to fall into becomming as strict on the "rules" in my head (that and my dietition) its taken years of hard work to vary things and not "do" 90% of normal foods (I literally only used to eat fresh fruit and steamed veg) I also still don't "do" carbs, (except for porridge oats) am not allowed fruit before I have been to the gym/9pm (however I left myself go on thursday, deciding if I ate nothing all day I could allow myself to sample a few chosen things) and only just started eating protein 2 yrs ago...I do alot of sport though so this is partly why I eat protein now but also, it screwed with my body not to do so.
-- I even seem to like the same beauty brands as you (Nuxe is my all time fav moisturiser and Kiehls for my body) I would also have liked to have seen Aveda, Philosophy and Liz Earle there but never mind.

I think many of the halth "professionals" there were brought in as sales people to sell the brand rahter then from the company with few exceptions. I did see one stand though with a gym who had developed Crones and designed and produced flapjacks as he was unable to sustain his weight or health on normal food. The flapjacks were OK (see how flexible I have become? I can now test flapjacks!!)

I think the thing to bare in mind is the Vitality show is basicly an advertisment show. Its trying to make money and so unfortunatly for us odd-balls, it never will cater fully for us, it will only cater for what sells and the mass market. The mass market has not much knowledge on health, so the show is aimed at quite a beginners level, as far as health goes, we are talking about people who don't have the time, don't want to eat green food or just don't walk anywhere. On top of that, this is their free time, health food and exercise is not a popular subject as it ttakes work. Most people today want an easy way out, a fast trick and to switch their health at the rate of downloading an ipod application. Being told to eat stuff that may not have the same amount of fat and sugar (and so to them may not taste as good) as what they'd otherwise eat does not always go down well, especially in their free time/day off. So you can imagine stands like these would not be as popular. (Although there was one stand/talk where the women was a bit OTT with her health "ideas", scare stories and miracle cures- no real scientific backing etc etc.)

Also, bearing in mind who were there and doing well, it was mainly the bigger companies, those with the cash to give away good deals and freebies. The glossy stands and bought in smiles went down well where as some of the more specialised companies just were not doing as well. Brand recognition and reassurance by a company who is already doing well will always win over a smaller more unknown company, its sad, but thats the way the mass makret is, few people want to take a gamble, and many are out for the best deal/freebie/tester they can get their hands on. Its all about sensory pleasures now rather then investment and learning. Again its sad, I'd have liked to see more, but you must remember this show is designed for the mass market, and those of us who already have some knowledge tend to be a different category, a minority and they just don't cater for us.

I hope they do a show one day that includes everyone, but I'd imagine the minority itself wouldn't pay the bills needed for such a show and that it would never get off the ground! I'd be good if it did happen though!

    Hi Glowgirl

Just wanted to add if you plan on driving to earls court etc I would recommend booking parking. I always drive to the shows and was disappointed that the carpark was full and reserved for those that had booked! Never happened to me before.

Instead managed to drive to Olympia and park there and got the train to Earls court which was good as avoided traffic too.
