My new job - Problems with Boss Part II

I wrote a thread recently on here about my manager who was bullying me. I was there for two months and on the 1st Feb I could take it no longer and walked out. I immediately called the director and the HR Manager and explained to them my situation, and emphasized I was not quitting I just could not work with this woman any longer, after she threw a file at me. They advised me to put it all in an email to them and they would open a grievance as set out in my contract. It's taken them till yesterday to come to a decision. They have been paying me the whole time I've been off.

I got a phone call from the HR Manager yesterday, he said they was terminating my contract as I could not work with my manager anymore. His words basically stated, 'we know she's hard to handle, but she's been here a long time and is good at her job. I was advised they had spoken to the other members of staff whom I advised would support me in my original email, and they gave them nothing. Now I know this is a lie as the girls who still work there advised me they'd not been spoken too, and they wanted to talk as she's been bullying them also.

Now I spoke to ACAS who said I needed to make an appeal due to the fact they've not carried out a full grievance complaint as specified in their contract.

I had a call today from the Director who sounded confused about my email asking them to appeal, and wants me to come in for an 'informal chat' Now he's going to ask me what I want to get out of this, and I don't want any monetry gain or reference as I've secured another job and start on the 22nd. All I want is this bully to be disciplined and my accusations taking seriously! The next member of staff that will be hired won't know what's hit them with her at the helm. My old colleagues state she has stopped bullying since I left, but that'll change as she's been like it for so long, I know some others who have left because of her, not strong enough to make a complaint. But she defiantly picked on the wrong girl this time.

My question is, what should I say to the Director when I meet him tomorrow? It's a small company but carries a big name.

They have a duty of care and if managers are throwing things at staff; that needs to be addressed.

    Hi Doobiesis,

Um not sure how to put this... but I think we may have worked for the same boss? (She was famous for her tantrums and file/stapler/desk ornament throwing sessions)

She (The old battleaxe) is a manager in her own right worked there for years and has a small team off 6?

Her Manager & Regional Manager are too afraid to upset her or the Apple cart as she brings to much money and one particular lucrative contract to the company? So they actively turn a blind eye to her disgraceful behaviour and remind staff they will always side with her if you were to put in a grievance?

If this sounds like the same lady please feel free to PM me as I would love to back you up and see someone shake them up and make them understand you can’t scream at staff, call them names and throw things at them with impunity.

As I left some time ago for the same reason and it grates on me that I did not do anything about it.
Please note I have a cognitive disability - as such my wording can be a bit off, muddled, misspelt or in some cases i can miss out some words totally...
  • If you're 100% sure that you don't want a reference, now or in the future, I'd try to 'get' whatever I could - especially if you've got nothing to lose.

I'd also report the file-throwing incident to the police :rotfl:
    £1 / 50p 2011 holiday flight + hotel expenses = £98.50600

HSBC 8% 12mth regular savings = £80 out of a maximum remaining allowance of £2500

    "3 months' salary" reserve = £00 / £3600

I've already got another job and told them I don't want them as ref as I'd only been there two months, they was fine with that and went to my previous employers. So I do not need them as a reference.

I've decided to stay professional and see what he's got to say, I'll voice my concerns that everyone is brushing it under the carpet, and has, it seems been doing so for a number of years.

Sounds like a plan. It's good that you're taking a stand even though you don't have any links with the company anymore. Let us know what he says - could be interesting!

I'd avoid naming ex-colleagues by name, though. No matter how much you think they want someone to take a stand, they still have to work there :( Do you have any contact details, so you can ask them beforehand if they want their problems mentioned, too? That way, you could really let rip ;)

Well most of the people backing me are actually former employees! there's two there at the moment who are also being bullied, and they both told me they got my back. They just want her either reprimanded or demoted. I highly doubt she'll be fired, although that's what should happen.

  • Been in for a meeting with the Director (who was also a bully) and he stated that as I walked out they never started a grievance procedure, even though they have told me on numerous occasions that they were carrying one out.

The HR Manager told me they'd interviewed three members of staff and got nothing from them. And that they would still be paying me whilst the procedure was carried out. But the Director says I should ignore the HR Manager!

Have called ACAS And they say I have a case and have started that procedure, apparently I have to go through a Mediation first, has anyone here had an experience of this as it'd be good to know what will happen now.
