Teaching baby signing

I've just found out about a really good opportunity where for a small fee I get all trained up and can then go out and teach baby signing. I signed with both my children and really enjoyed it. You get trained, manuals, DVDs etc and all the help and support you need; the woman I spoke to was really friendly and helpful.
Do you think this would be a good business opportunity? Would you consider doing this? I am just wondering if people would be interested or not; I wouldn't be buying into a franchise so it would be my own business.
I'd have to obviously book venues - would I need insurance? I'm just scared that if I went ahead with this I'd end up with no-one coming and I'd have wasted even more money with nothing to show for it.
All I need to do now is learn to sing without making people's ears bleed .... :rotfl:

I think it's a good idea. I don't know sign language at all, but it is beneficial. I think there is a market for it, I've never heard of anyone in my area at least who do it.0

Yep, I agree - baby signing classes are already quite popular - and becoming more popular, I think! You'd need public liability insurance (in case anyone trips and falls over, then decides to sue!).
You could maybe go round some baby/antenatal groups and get an idea of how many might be interested in attending?0 -
You need a first aid certificate, and training in signing, and if you are going to run it as an individual you'll need liability insurance too. I used to teach at the community centre, people were interested but I never made much money.
Where were you thinking of doing it? It's usually in a village hall or centre, if you've got one with adequate pushchair parking etc, you could ask them to allow you to put a survey in and see how much interest there is?Signature down for maintenance :rotfl:0 -
arent the classes just run as an extention of the Breast Feeding Group? Round our way I think its done by surestart for free0

Thanks for your advice everyone but I've decided it's not for me. I just don't know that I would be comfortable sitting and singing in front of mums and tots, I'm not terribly outgoing and think it wouldn't go well. I can't see many people would want to go when, as Steve1981 said, it is possible to get it for free from Surestart. We have Sing & Sign around here too, so I'd have big competition from them and just don't feel it's worth it.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0
