If you’d like to learn more about using a computer, or want to introduce the internet to a friend or a family member, community network UK Online Centres have launched a set of five, free, short courses to help get people started using computers and the internet, called Online Basics.
The five Online Basics modules are:
How to help someone get online[/title]
If you'd like to help someone get started using the internet the Help Pass IT On website has some great tips.
10 million people in the UK, mostly the over 65s or those out of work, have never used the internet and this new campaign aims to get friends, family and neighbours to help each other.

My understanding of the Online basics is that it is aimed at those with zero (& just above) computer skills and that those wishing to join should do so through a UKonline centre, where they will receive help & guidance. Taking place, until the end of March, is the pilot in five areas. Barnsley, Oldham, Gloucester, Devon & London. Not all UKonline centres in these areas are taking part. Many of the centre are probably libraries. I know that in Oldham, amongst others, Limehurst & Crompton libraries are taking part. Provided the pilots are a success, the scheme is due to be introduced nationally later this year.
Users of the MoneySavingExpert website will probably not benefit from this basic course as they will be aware of its contents already. However, you may know someone who could benefit from it.0 -
bumping to say im trying to get a few of my firends to do this...if they have internet they should knwo the basics lol but ive just worked through their basic skills test and found computer settings stuff i dont know either (though i would be able to figgure it out on my own eventually) even after 9 years of owning a puter with internet access, and being only most days for the past 7 years or so.
so might be worth a look at even if you are more knowledgeable just to check your skills if nothing else.0 -
