Can somebody help. I'm trying to get all our paperwork organised. What should I keep, how long should I keep it, should I file Jan - Dec or Apr - Mar?
I have a filing cabinet to store it all in when I have decided what to keep.
I prefer to keep hardcopies of things, we have the space and I don't mind filing. I also keep the manuals for everything in their.

Ooooh, my favourite subject!! :j I LOVE filing - don't think I'm mad, I find it very theraputic.
I always file in topic so mobile phone bill, mortgage, bank statements, gas etc. in a drop file clearly labelled.
Then I sub-catagorise in each file with plastic wallets (the kind that are open on 2 sides) so all statements together, all correspondance together, etc.
And I always find that I file with the most recent on the top - it's usually the one you need first!
Hope this helps - if not I can always do it for youMay the fleas of a thousand camels infest the crotch of the person who screws up your day and may their arms be too short to scratch...:D1 -
I also love filing, like you I file by topic but have yet to sub-catagorise, think I will adopt this stratergy. Also I keep them in date order.Fashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

Get your suspension files from Tesco - £3.89 for 10. I paid £4.99 for exactly the same thing in Stationery Box.
My tip is only to keep the last year's utility bills, and shred the rest. I would only keep the last one, except it is nice to compare quarters and see how much everything has gone up  .I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
