Natural Detox

Ok it's that time of year when we have over indulged and our waistbands are feeling the consequences. I've spent the last few days really uncomfortable and feeling really bloated so I've been looking into detox plans on the net but so far have only seen ones that require you to buy some special tea bags or special syrup costing a fortune. Any ideas for a natural detox with items I can buy in my local health food store that don't cost the earth?

If your wanting 'special tea bags' then try normal peppermint or camomile tea. They work wonders too, and warm you up in this cold weather.
The body naturally detoxes itself anyway but drinking water is always a bonus (think its 2lt a day??) I always mix mine with fruit juice though, just can't drink water on its own!!
Oh and cranberry juice is meant to be good!
All these options should cost under a £1 from Tesco's and the such.0 -
"Detox" - Stop eating and drinking cr&p and start eating healthily, drinkning water and moderate exercise.
You don't need to spend money on something with Detox on the box......0 -
You know the stuff you've eaten and drunk to make you feel all bloaty and bad??
WELL DON'T HAVE ANY MORE OF IT!
There you go.
If you feel you need to spend something to be properly 'detoxed' - whell P.M me your address and I'll bill you a couple of hundred quid for that advice!
How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -
When I worked in the NHS a colleague who was a consultant told me that the whole concept of 'detoxing' is rubbish - it is just a money making marketing ploy - the best you can do is follow a healthy diet and avoid crap!0

I second this. The liver and kidneys do an incredible job of detoxing all by themselves so as long as you don't have any disorders affecting either of these organs your body will take care of itself. If you want to reduce their workload, reduce salt, saturated fat, alcohol and caffeine and eat a balanced diet rich in wholegrains, fruit, veg and lean protein sources like chicken and fish.

I agree that a lot of the detox thing is marketing nonsense. Your liver does an amazing job if it's working properly. However there are some things you can take that MAY help it work better particularly if it's had a hard time (alcohol for long periods or a high fructose intake). Alpha lipoic acid is the one I would choose, but the version you'll get on the highstreet will be expensive and pretty worthless. Google "K-RALA" or "Na-RALA" if you're interested. Silymarin (Milk thistle) is another option - easily available and fairly cheap.
Drinking good amounts of water and avoiding caffeine, sugar and alcohol is helpful. Avoiding fats isn't necessarily a good idea as your body needs them - the right ones though so no transfats. IMO natural saturated fats get a bad press that isn't fair. I have more concern about grains.
If you normally have caffeine drinks coffee/cola/tea you might find it better to taper off over a few days or you could get some pretty uncomfortable side effects and decide to give up everything before you've got any results.
