How to contact wholesalers in China or Japan?

Hope someone on here can help - DH is under the threat of redundancy by next March, so he thought he may set up an on-line business connected to his hobby - a niche market yes, but enthusiasts pay handsomely to follow this hobby and buy the tools etc needed for it.
We've looked for UK wholesale suppliers who import this stuff and found some, but they do not respond to email contact (haven't tried phoning yet, but as they are all over the country, that may start to get expensive).
The problem is that the best (only) manufacturers of the stuff we want are all in China  or Japan!!!
We looked on AliBaba - found several possibilities, emailed them - no response from any of them- any suggestions as to where we go from here?
DH can do all the website stuff and has the specialist knowledge of the hobby, but all no good if we can't find someone to supply the goods!
Any ideas at all would be very much appreciated!

If no response to email why dont you try phoning them? Surely it would be worth the costs if it means getting in touch with a good supplier, good products, good prices etc;? A bit of investment now mightnt be a bad thing. When dealing with the CSA its important to note that it is commonly accepted as unfit for purpose, and by default this also means the staff are unfit for purpose.0

With Alibaba, you really need MSN messenger, use a hotmail account to sign up, then you will find that they will add you and start talking to you on MSN, emils and phone calls don't get you very far and you will find that antisocial hours, to help bridge the time gap will help. This is how I found it easiest.turn £100 into £10000 in 2010 member #16 £567.68/£10,000 -

Calling China is just 0.5P per minute, http://callchecker.moneysavingexpert.com/intcallchecker/china
If you get stuck then do what my daughter did when trying to arrange accommodation in China. She bought a Chinese carry out and phoned while she was waiting, getting someone in the restaurant to translate!
The commercial department of the Chinese embassy should also be able to provide you with contacts.0 -
For a go-between you could consider one of the auction/onling shopping deputy services. For example when I used to collect figurines made in Japan, because over there they have their own version of eBay called Yahoo Auctions Japan, I would have to use a go-between service. They're usually called deputy services or proxy services. Since your situation is rather special however I'm not sure if they would extend to this sort of business but one you might try is m-world-service.com . If they can't help you could try asking them if there is any other service or advice they could recommend. Aside from that you could look around for import dropshipping services via Google. A quick search brought me to dropshipforum.co.uk which seems to be a useful forum for discussion on importing goods using a dropshipping service for business purposes.
For translation services, if you know any other languages than English yourself then you could give the free cucumis.org service a try. It's basically a translation trading community. You help out someone by translating their text and they translate a text for you etc. Its a nice alternative to the paid translator services out there if you have some language skills.
Good luck with the business!0 -
