Leaving date on P45 after Maternity

I went on maternity October 2008, and stopped receiving SMP in July 2009. I handed in my notice as per my contract in September, and have just received my holiday pay from the company. The problem is my P45 - it states my leaving date as 31 July 2009, when I was technically still employed until mid October. I can only assume they have done this because I my SMP stopped mid-July, but is this right?

Surely it should be October, when my employment actually terminated? Could this cause problems for future jobs/taxes?

Thanks for any help!

If they stopped paying you anything in July then it sounds sensible that they put this date, HMRC won't care that you were still "employed" up to October, neither will your future employers probably either care or notice.
