in Cutting tax
I wonder if anyone can work something out for me. I just would like a rough idea of how much more tax my husband has paid in the last 14 months if he'd just been on a normal 647L tax code as opposed to a K672 one? He's made about £65k since August 2008.
He's in the process of claiming a tax rebate but it's taken since July and we're still waiting on word from them. But his tax affairs are a bit complicated and that's maybe why it's taking so long.

This is a bit difficult to answer without more information.
Are you saying he should have been on code 647L for the past 14 mths? I doubt this as the basic code for last tax year was 603L. Exactly at what date did his circumstances change where the K code was not applicable?
Would also need to know gross pay for the tax year to 5/4/09 and for the period 6/4/09 to date.
What is complicated about his affairs which may affect the answer we give?£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
The accountant has had all his paperwork since July so I can't remember the exact figures. If it can't be worked out it's okay. I was just curious.
His tax code changed in August 2008, after he got a tax rebate of £12000 (minus £5000 which was taken off for tax before he got his cheque, so he received £7k). This was down as benefits in kind on last years P11D.
It's complicated due to double taxation. This year it's down on his P11D that he had just over £19k as benefits in kind. None of his work collegues have had their tax code changed like this, and they've all been out of the country for the same amount of time, and work for the same company. They've also had all their tax back, unlike my husband who had to pay over £5000 on the £12k rebate last year.
As I said, it's okay if it can't be worked out. His accountant thinks he should get this 14 months money back.0 -
If he is paying an accountant to sort out his tax affiars, surely the accountant can tell him what the refund will be?£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0

She thinks he 'might' get £19k back, plus whatever extra tax he's already paid in the past 14 months, plus the £5k from last year. She also wanted all the dates he's been out of the country in the past 3 years.
I guess we'll just have to wait. She doesn't sound as if she knows what she's doing to be honest. It's a bit frustrating. But thanks for replying anyway.
