I would imagine it would depend on whether you were on a permanent contract with your employer before you were paid off. From memory and the little bit of employment law that I worked in years ago I doubt it would be classed as continuous employment - why were you paid off - lack of work?

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
No, it doesn't normally count as continuous employment. If there is a break in employment of more than a week, saturday to sunday, continuous employment is broken.

If the break was occasioned by redundancy and the employee is then offered a new contract or an extension of the old one, continuity is preserved if the new contract or extension starts no more than four weeks after the end of the original contract. However, continuity will be broken if the employee has received a statutory redundancy payment.

I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.
