Postal gold companies, where you pop your old jewellery in an envelope & they melt it down and send you a cheque, have boomed in the past couple of months. We’re researching a guide to selling old gold, and need help from folks who’ve used these companies.
If you've used this company, please can you tell us the following...

Important note for Representatives of Gold Companies
We will be monitoring the threads, and if we believe any company has got its own representatives to deliberately post positive feedback (or negative on its competitors) it will be deleted, and we will count that as negatively towards any company's reliability and trustworthyness.

I sent a broken gold ring an ex gf gave me years ago in the prepaid envelope Ramsdens sent me after i applied for it on their website. It was only a cheapo one and very thin (thats why it broke!), but they emailed me to tell me how much it was worth (£7.20) and sent me the cheque for the correct amount within a few days. Overall, i was very satisified with the service.0

Is there any need for all these individual threads for different companies cluttering the forum ?0
-
Every need imo nexuss. Far too many people are being stung and something needs to be done.
I used two of the companies a few weeks ago, I did research at the time and found absolutely nothing negative about either of the them, a few day later while waiting for one transaction to complete I found one new comment which set off alarm bells, I acted and luckily all eventually turned out ok, but their are people still fighting tooth and nail to have their gold returned from the same company.
The amount of complaints since has risen dramatically.
If these threads can stop even one person from using a company and being ripped off, then that is worth it.
Maybe after enough feedback has been received the information could be condensed by mods so the forum does not become too cluttered.0 -
There is currently 287 gold companies like this in the uk so i look forward to the forum getting cluttered.0

Take your word on the:eek: 287 companies.
Granted if their was a separate thread for each of the 287 companies that would indeed be a lot of "clutter", however their is less than 20 companies in the list for feedback.0 -
I used Ramsdens beginning of this year because a friend of mine did. I sent off odd earrings broken chains, not that much really it weighed about 50grams and i got £200 it was well worth it. I emailed them on the fri got the pack on the sat sent the gold off on the mon was offered the money by email on the wed accepted it, got the cheque Fri it was great.0

I used Ramsdens early this year. Sent them 2 broken chains. They ask you to weigh the gold and give an approximate value - based on the amounts on their website. I only expected to get £40 but got £46. It all took less than a week and I was very impressed. The amount they were offering for the gold was comparable to the scrap value I would have got by selling it to a dealer and they pay all the postage costs too.:T
I think there are too many of these companies advertising now, it's a nightmare deciding which one to use, but I would recommend Ramsdens. Communication was great, they let me know by email as soon as they received my gold and told me how much it was worth so I could decide if I wanted to go through with it or have it sent back to me.
I haven't seen their adverts for ages though. I think their slogan was "Got Gold? Get Cash". :think:0 -
I got my OH to pop into our local with some odd bits and bobs and he got offered £120. He told them he may be back and left. I then went to a local independant store with the exact same bits and bobs and they gave me £260.
Moral of my story? Shop around and check out the independant stores!"The journey of 1000 miles commenced with a single step"0 -

Ramsdens certainly havent improved....after getting some gold valued at a local jewellers(£225) i popped into Ramsdens who offered me £110.....i told her i had been offered £225, at which she matched the offer..but no more.....I knew my 61 grms of 9ct was worth over £500 so declined their offer............these places really are a rip-off.....and some of the postal sites are worse....as are some of the locals....definately shop around and read the threads.
Use Hatton Garden.....you'll not go far wrong..........read the MSE thread.Couponing....."every little hurts"
