This thread is specifically to discuss feedback for the

Mygoldmine Gold Company
(
Link)

Postal gold companies, where you pop your old jewellery in an envelope & they melt it down and send you a cheque, have boomed in the past couple of months. We’re researching a guide to selling old gold, and need help from folks who’ve used these companies.

If you've used this company, please can you tell us the following...
  • When did you use it
  • What did you send it
  • How much did it promise you
  • How much did it deliver
  • How efficient was the service
  • If it didn't deliver the full amount, what was its reason
  • Anything else other people should know

Important note for Representatives of Gold Companies

We will be monitoring the threads, and if we believe any company has got its own representatives to deliberately post positive feedback (or negative on its competitors) it will be deleted, and we will count that as negatively towards any company's reliability and trustworthyness.

  • I contacted Mygoldmine on Wednesday 18th Nov and received the envelope next day. The estimate for 23g on their site was £177 and odd pence. I posted the envelope on Thursday, there were 3 chains, 2 wedding rings and some odd earrings, all hall marked. I got the post office to weigh it separately to confirm the weight independently. The PO asked me my valuation of the packet altho the gold company says its automatically valued up to £500. I was phoned with an offer on Friday, I had to ask for the actual valuation as she was more concerned with confirming my address and how I wanted to be paid. When I was told £117 I queried it, and she said that they sold their gold on and that was all the buyers were paying today. She also said the weight was 21 1/2 g, and that the post office scales were not finely calibrated like jewellers ones. I wonder if I would have been told if it was over? The weight that day had been calculated online at £179, and I told her that and said I thought that was too big a difference whereupon she offered me £137 which I accepted. I did wonder after if I should have pushed for more, but didnt want it back and needed the cash. There was a voucher included in the postal envelope for £10 bonus for replying quickly, but only valid for 35g and over. I received the cheque today, Saturday 21st, so it was quick, and for broken stuff in a drawer not too bad. I would advise anyone else to push harder.

hi all i have dealt with this company recently ie january 2010 and just like the whacky lady i got the envelope quick , which i sent back the next day. This i'm afraid is where it went wrong badly i checked on royalmail track n trace facility the item showed as still progressing through the network, so i called them , i'm sorry the nice lady says but we have not received it yet , hmmm now i think that someone stole it as it was special delivery and is supposedly next day gauranteed. The ever so nice lady says we must give it 3 days so i did ,called again and checked royalmail still not arrived hmmm. called royalmail several times who then tell me it takes ages for a fully trackable item to show on their system i must wait a few days ... this is where i started getting irate an ask to speak to someone higher in royalmail , who 3 days later gets me a signature receipt to say that mygoldmine signed for it the day after i sent it , at their manchester depot .again i call mygoldmine who swear blind they have not got it i then tell her but royalmail sent me email signature proof , she says leave it with me ill get back to you .which i might add she never ever did. i did every call all the chasing , what a joke!!!!eventually they find it at my goldmine on the 2nd week and say they will call me back with a price which they did £260 for a nearly 50 gram gold ring , yes that heavy!!! is why i sold it expecting a lot more.So in summary 2 weeks nearly in time lost and wasted and i believe about just over half the price it was worth , i tried telling her it was worth a lot more but just wanted an end to the grief , eventually 3 days later i got the £260 , buyer beware springs to mind and use this company at your peril because i won't recommend them to anyone.
