Yes, yes.... I know the bottom step of the staircase is free, but for £4 its good to have one that's portable (so you can watch them!)....or of course fantastic for people who live in bungalows and apartments/flats!
TKMAXX - £4.00 - check out your local store!

In my opinion it's best to save your £4 and have a naughty spot, which is where ever the finger points.
When my kids need time out I can't be carting a step around in the middle of Tesco or at the seaside or at the toddler group, so we've made sure that where ever we are we can point to an appropriate chair/spot on the floor/bench or whatever and that's the naughty spot.
It works, infallibly, doesn't cost me a penny and it doesn't take up any room in my bag, which is true money saving!
Obsessing about remortgaging and interest rates all day, every day:)0 -
Yes, good idea HappyJaw, makes sense, you certainly can't be carting it round everywhere! I normally say......when you get home you will be straight on the naughty step...(good behaviour until we get home gains them 1 minute of probation off the naughty step, bad behaviour adds a minute on) this seems to work well. We have been using a toilet step stool for the purposes of 'a naughty step' for the last year or so, so they are used to the idea. But I must say this one cuts the mustard, they certainly seem to stay put on this one for whatever reason, right height, size, etc whatever it is...works for us.....been a good investment of £4.0

Have to say, my dad forced the corner of the room on me for several years. Pointless, just gave me time to plot against him and work up my revenge, and rebell I did!
Its not the naughty step thats the way to solve the problem, its how it is presented and the point you are making when telling your child to "go sit on the naughty step" - shouting at them to do it and using it as a punishment will build a rod for your own back- an example could be that eventually your child will work on punishment to get what it wants from other people or (like me,) just learn that other people don't act in this way towards them, its only the person imposing the chair that does, and just rebell plain and simple...
Try to use the chair as a diplomatic situation- time to think rather then time to be punished. Remind constantly the better way to have dealt with the problem, and why the chair was needed, once when your child is hysterical, and then again once it has calmed down.
And never use for hours on end!0 -
Why on earth would you need a "branded naughty step"??? the naughty step is only a gimmick.... a cardboard box, a plastic foot stool, or a corner of carpet would have the same effect! even if you live in a bungalow....
The naughty step doesn't have to be an actual "step"! It's the message that counts, not the gimmick.

Labelling theory working at it's best. Tell children they're bad from a young age, expect the consequences of that label as they grow. *Hate* Supernanny, the woman doesn't even have children.Come ride with me, through the veins of history...
I'll show you how God falls asleep on the job.

The method is not telling the children that they are bad, rather that its their behaviour which is unacceptable. Or would you say that a child whacking its brother/sister around the head or kicks his mum is a good thing? Look forward to school!0

You dont have to have children to understand them and want to teach them that being naughty has consciquences0
