How can I soften material?

I've bought a bandana but the material is very stiff - almost starchy? I've soaked it is some fabric conditioner but it's not helped. does anyone know how I can make it more soft and "relaxed". Thank you.

have you tried putting it throught the washing machine? i suggest trying that with the fabric conditioner replaced with a little white vinegar.

You could also try rinsing it in hair conditioner, this was something that an Ann Summers rep told me when I asked how they kept everything so soft.
