I bumped into the chap who runs this site the other day - a friend of a friend. As he talked me through what he did, it seemed rather intereresting for anyone looking to get fit.

Essentially its an online personal training system - which sets up and monitors the training for you.

Most interesting for MoneySavers is as the technology is still in testing at the moment and they're looking to build market share, its free at the moment.

Do check it out and feed back.

to register you are asked many questions about your sporting activity.
therefore, if you are currently active, have your up to date data to hand, such as
    height.
    weight
    max heart rate (if known)
metabolic test results (if you've had one)
if you swim, what your personal bests are over 50m,100m,200m

the registration process asks you all of this in one go.. so having it all to hand will help a speedy registration.

after registration it will calculate a training programme for you, originally over 4 weeks. on completion, you can go and edit the data you entered during registration - though do note the system will record the original data as benchmarks.
registering today sets you a programme commencing mon 29th may.
on first inspection it does not appear you can choose this date.
once you have the programme, you will then need to fill in the actual results of your training as you follow your programme day by day.
you can choose which days of the week you do and dont want to train though.
on first inspection, it looks like a very good start. it will certianly suit those of us who like to record heart recovery rates, times to do certain lengths of the pool, miles on the bike etc.:j

Having just been on and registered (as I'm very keen to get fit again), I found the site very limited. Your fitness options are limited to cycling (great if you have a bike), swimming (requires a swimming pool nearby), or running. Not being a fan of running, it makes it very difficult. There aren't any other options such as walking, which is easy for most people to fit into a busy schedule.

Not great if you don't like any of the three options and certainly not worth £19.99 a month once the free trial has ended.

I have to say personally I wouldn't employ him as a personal trainer! (I've worked in the health & fitness industry for 15 years & recruit LOTS of personal trainers & fitness professionals)
Why? very limited experience & qualifications. "ACSM qualified personal trainer" is a very vague term, lots of courses are ACSM recognised. (ACSM is the American College of Sports Medicine BTW). WABBA is the world amateur body building association, not particularly highly recognised in the British world of health & fitness.
Where is his REPS registration? (Register of Exercise Professionals, designed to regulate & standardise fitness qualifications in the UK). You would need a level 3 to call yourself a personal trainer, but these qualifications don't add up to enough points to achieve level 3 status. What about Anatomy & Physiology training, sports science, nutrition? I could go on.........
It all looks very pretty (nice professionally designed website, but I'd expect that from someone who was global head of foreign exchange trading) & if his training methods work then great, but there are more experienced & better qualified personal trainers out there who are prepared to get off their back sides & help you (for a fee!).
By all means sign up for the free trial, but in most of the country you cen get yourself an off peak gym membership for £20 a month where the fitness instructors are real, not virtual.
It's very triathlon biased too, as cshowell points out - run, bike swim. There are many other ways to get fit.
  • I got very excited after reading the above link as I have spent many hundreds of dollars on personal raining in the past. When I tried visiting the link posted above the address seems to be inactive/under construction so I was quite disappointed?
I then did a quick search to see if I could find any other sites offering free personal training and this one seemed to be the most comprehensive: www.one80.com

I got a free meal plan and free training program right away!:T
SO thank you for suggesting the idea of free personal training, I never would have thought that existed!;) I will start on my new plan this week and check back in a couple weeks to report on my progress...
