I would be interested to hear your opinions on this.
In Tesco earlier, there was an offer on the flavoured chicken thighs from the hot deli counter. Each thigh was priced at 45p, and the offer was 3 for £1.20, therefore saving 15p when buying 3.
I asked for 4, and when the bag was handed over, the price label said £1.80
I queried this, should it not be £1.65. i.e. £1.20 for 3 plus 45p for an extra one.
The lady behind the counter somewhat curtly told me the offer was on 3, not 4! Needless to say, I gave the bag back, and ordered 3 in one bag, and then one separate one, hence I qualified for the offer.
Now, bearing in mind the Tesco slogan "Every Little Helps", surely the staff member should have charged me in the cheapest possible way- same as if you pick up a BOGOF but forget the free one, checkout staff often tell you and get one collected for you (if they know the offer is on), or was she right to do it as she did- 4 in one bag therefore not qualifying for the offer?
I would be fascinated to hear your thoughts on this! :T

To be honest she is right but I'd have thought that any staff worth their salt would have said to you, have a 3 pack and and extra one as it would be cheaper, many shop assistants willingly point out the special offers so I don't think its policy to keep strum.
She got what she deserved anyway, extra work, for being an unhelpful sod!But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0 -
To be honest, she was thick, not right!British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0

While she was a little bit thick, the computer was thicker - it should have recognised the offer and charged £1.65.0

Ah, but everything on the deli counters operates on a code- including the offers. Fictional codes, but say 001 was a single chicken thigh at 45p, and 002 was the 3 for £1.20 offer, then selling 4 * 001 will result in 4 * 45p, but selling 1 * 002 plus 1 * 001 would result in the till calculating 1 * £1.20 plus 1* 45p
The problem isn't the till not recognising- its the wrong code being used. However, since I had asked her clarify which pieces were included in the offer, it should have been forefront in her mind!0 -

I don't wish to appear rude, but this isn't ripping off, it's offers ending (and new offers beginning!). The case I started this thread with was an offer that was still ongoing but basically wasn't offered to me. To put in the contect of what you have posted it would be stationary at £1 each 3 for 2, so you could buy 3 items for £2, or 4 items for £4 because you had gone over the 3 stated in the offer.
But what you have stated is simply offers ending, which obviously they do on a weekly basis. I think Thursday is changeover day if memory serves me correctly.0 -
Tesco is no different to any other supermarkets for dodgy offers. They all do it.
You just have to be observant.
One that amuses me, although possibly not available UK-wide (as it's a local Cumbrian product):
Richard Woodall bacon in Tesco Finest 'Richard Woodall' packaging: £2.78 for 200g or 2 for £5.00
Next to it on the shelf....
The same Richard Woodall bacon in Richard Woodall packaging: £1.99 for 200g....British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
First post, long time reader ...
I do sometimes wonder if any of the people posting/complaining have ever worked in retail/for a company like tesco ?
Would I have offered a bag of 3 and a single one, yes, I have in the past. Would I do it with a manager present, or if i thought there was any chance of getting any crap from it, not a chance.
I dont know what its like in a superstore, but i do know how paranoid things are in an express, you cant take a !!!! without being checked up on these days. And at the end of the day, my job, or the job of any of my staff, is not worth risking for a few pence for a stranger.0 -

So are you saying you would get into trouble for giving the customer the offer if the manager was standing next to you?Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -

Yes, for 3 1/2 years. And the first thing I was told in training is "the price war can only go so far, we need to compete on service" which is where the whole offer to pack bags/ one in front policy came from.
Surely pointing out an offer is not a problem, evidently if the staff purposely defrauded the company by selling items at the wrong price this would be a different issue althogther.0
