For ages I have been wanting a Kitchenaid mixer but can't afford one, however I just found this http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000779US4/ref=ed_soc__1_1/202-1088654-1563802on Amazon and I wondered if anyone had ever had one or if they thought it would make a good Kitchenaid sub. It looks nice but.....

Don't have one, never seen one before tbh
But before you decide to spend £100 on a substitute machine, ask yourself a few questions.
Is it the look of the machine which attracts you, or it's capabilities?
Will this do all the things a KA will do?
If you are going to invest in this until you can afford a KA, is there anything else you could use/buy that is cheaper and put the difference into a savings account which you could add as a KA fund?
Best of luck in deciding, Jane~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

its unwise to pay too much but its worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money...that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot... it can't be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run and if you do that you will have enought to pay for something better.

Looking at the reviews on this product I would buy it at that price - its P & P free and other places have it advertised at 178 so I would think that you would make your money back if not happy with it and its powerful enough to do the job as I checked the wattage against my chef. I like the look of it too.Saving in my terramundi pot £2, £1 and 50p just for me! :j0

It depends on what you are looking for a machine to do - this one only mixes. Most of the Kitchenaids and also Kenwood Chefs have attachments available to do loads of other things, like make pasta, a juicer, a liquidiser, wheat grinder, coffee grinder, mincer, etc.
I have a 1970's Kenwood Chef and would not be without it - it is not as good looking as a kitchenaid but does everything I want it to and more.
I'm thinking £100 seems a lot to spend on a machine that is solely a mixer. For £100, you could get a fantastic older (and stronger) Kenwood Chef on ebay with lots of different attachments, and still have change from your money.
The Patissier does look nice though, if you are only after a mixer than it would be much cheaper than buying a Kitchenaid.!!!
HTH!

I'm tempted to suggest going without until you can afford the Kitchenaid. I bought one about five years ago and I struggled with my conscience as it was very extravagant for the type of income I had at the time, but its just the most fantastic piece of equipment, as well as looking like a piece of art in the kitchen. And I use it all the time, I've definitely got my moneys worth out of it, and its guaranteed for something like 20 years, thats the sort of quality we're talking about!! I'm so in love with Kitchenaid that its really quite tragic, I really should work for the company, I could sing its praises all day !0

I saw the one you are asking about in lakeland Plastics a couple of weeks ago. It was reduced to £99.
It did catch my eye. I had just bought a cream Kitchenaid and I thought It did look quite nice for £99.
I say buy it. If you look else where I think it is £200.
I do love my kitchenaid. I bought it from Amazon for £297.0 -
Hi, I know this is an old thread, but I recently got a kenwood patissier (red one!) from ebay for £59.99 with £20 delivery (they are very heavy and it was sent next day by courier), I think recently there have been some for £49.99.
It is a total bargain, you get a whisk, beater and dough hook and it is gorgeous. I too bought it as an alternative to the kitchen aid and having looked closly at the ka in John lewis the other day, I made the right decision!
I'm not sure what extras come with the Kitchen Aid though, but I do prefer mine in looks too it is retro styled rather than just looking like an old mixer if that makes sense?
ETA- it makes excellent dough, cakes, batters etc, I haven't cooked so much in ages0 -
To be honest for that money I would get the Kenwood Chef which is the same price
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Kenwood-0WKM310501-Chef-KM310/dp/B0009GV3O2/sr=1-4/qid=1169556733/ref=sr_1_4/202-9592382-8383857?ie=UTF8&s=kitchen
It will do exactly the same as the Pattiesiere and you can get other attachments to go with it. It might not look as pretty but they do still look very nice and are much more practical. It comes with the liquidiser too.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things
F U Fund currently at £2500 -
i wanted a magi mix for years but didn't want to spend the money, when i add upp all the money i have spent on cheaper units i could have just bought one, i now have one and can't see it ever needing to be replaced. i always try to buy the best of everything now as anything else is just false economy, i don't follow trends so find its easy to do.0
