The Bank of England has to follow the money markets.

The markets are telling the bank that its base rate is currently .25% too low.

I think it's hilarious that Mervyn and co continue to give the impression that they're in control. Basically they do what the markets tell them, otherwise they eventually get punished for it (a run on the pound etc)

in my opinion the fed will increase rates twice more by .25 percentage points. the bofe will have to increase rates even more - nobody has learnt, or is willing to learn, any lessons here: the ever-increasing house price increases; the spiralling debt mountain; the madness of the commodities markets. if people won't learn, the fed and the bofe will be their teacher (even though the bofe is in a state of denial). let the pain commence...

The bank of england will follow suit and will increase rates. Its pretty much a certainty. As they say....when America sneezes.....the UK gets a cold. They have no choice.

as i said in my earlier post - in a state of denial...the markets won't be so forgiving...i hope those people in 'difficulties' can swallow their medicine. i believe two more .25 percentage increases at least. :)

FYI, those economic "experts" (ho ho ho), Capital Economics have changed their forecast for interest rates.

Bumbling Bootle predicted rates would fall to 3.5% this year. Now they're predicting rates will stay at 4.5%. So you can be sure they'll go up then.

This is the company that predicted house prices would fall by 20%.

    What a bunch of jokers.

I don't know why people keep complaining about this, base rates are still a long way off 15/16% and have been kept artificially low for some time.

Perhaps it's time to think of the poor savers.

[and you are absolutely right about rates having been kept artificially low - this will change soon, and those without any prudence will get their come-uppance :)]
