stain removal

Options
Got some free furniture yesterday from a relative who is moving house. Today I was doing up the scratches and dents with Topps Scratch cover. Spilt it on the (plain beige) carpet. Although I blotted it up right away there is a big nasty mark.
options:
1. try and get the mark out
2.claim the house contents insurance? (it is the upstairs landing, so that could mean whole of stairs and hall. we knew someone who spilt paint on a bedroom carpet and got a replacement through insurance. have never claimed before)
3. cover the offence with a rug.

any advice gratefully received

Some companies will send a pro in to remove the stain if at all possible so a new carpet is not guaranteed, sorry.
If it were me I'd probably call the insurance co and ask for their advice - you might then get a feel for what they'll offer you, and maybe an indication as to how it'll affect next years premium.
    Hope that helps

I usually clean my plain Beige lounge carpet with Stardrops in a bucket of water and find it get out a multitude of stains. I use a large car sponge and use the foam rather then the water IYKWIM and gently blot and squeeze the sponge at the same time thus getting out more foam. If all else fails you could claim on your insurance but check your policy to see if its covered.
