cheap nits treatment - effective!

Options
When my daughters had v bad nits and lice none of the expensive 'official' treatments worked. Then a friend recommended tea tree, so I used some v cheap (less than 99p a bottle) Alberto Balsam Tea Tree and Mint shampoo and conditioner - left conditioner on for a couple of hours whilst I combed out all the little bu**ers and... it worked. I've since continued using the shampoo and conditioner as a preventative and it's been totally successful, even when all round them the other kids were crawling with them. I've since recommended it to another friend whose daughter couldn't shift the nits...and i've just heard it worked for her. So I thought I'd pass it on as I remember what a nightmare it was trying to get rid of them, and how many expensive preparations and hours combing we went through unsuccessfully. Might save someone some grief and expense. And it's natural too - much better than the chemical treatments.

I agree Tea Tree appears to be very effective and a much gentler option than harsh chemicals. My friend was having great trouble keeping her 2 girls (aged 9 and 4) "nit-free" - she tried all kinds of available preparations but had most success with the tea tree. Now she buys a bottle of cheap 'basics' style conditioner, adds a few drops of tea tree essential oil and uses this as a regular preventative measure. Also she insists that the girls keep their hair tied (usually plaited) for school and once this is done she sprays their hair with a spritzer bottle of water with a few drops of tea tree added. Seems to work a treat.

I found tea tree brilliant for this. I used a cheap tea tree shampoo then added a couple of drops of the essential oil to the blob in my hand and shampooed DS with this. It worked a treat. I also used tea tree conditioner and combed it through. Never been troubled with the little blighters since! (Touch wood...);)
