Grotty green moss on the patio

Apart from the weeds that seem to have taken over my garden like triffids I have some pretty horrible green mossy stuff that seems to be growing all over my patio. I have a covered drain outlet there and I think it could be from the resulting dampness near to it. Any ideas as to how, without resorting to expensive moss remover, I could get rid of the beastly stuff. I remember my late Father used to mix up some disgustingly smelly stuff when we were children to put on moss but I can't remember what it was .mind you he was a chemist so maybe it was his own concoction

You could try scrubbing it with a solution of washing soda and hot water. I don't mean that you should scrub it on your hands and knees LOL, just use a hard sweeping brush. If that doesn't work try using bleach but don't get it near plants.

It may have been Jeyes fluid that your grandfather used. Great stuff for cleaning up paving, stinks to high heaven. Buy the tins of it (not the pre mixed stuff, thats very over-priced) and you just dilulte a couple of capfulls in a bucket of water. Then, drench the area with the mixture, leave for 30 mins and then scrub with a garden brush. Rinse off, and you'll see the difference straight away. It gets even better over the next couple of days as well. Great stuff. (Poisonous to cats though, don't let them anywhere near it).

    White vineger! JackieO!
Kills grass, weeds and Moss on sidewalks, driveways and patio's. I put the top from the washing-up liquid bottle on the vinegar bottle and used full strength. Also Ant Deterrent!
If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
