Hi,
I found a news article about this. It's a piece of software I've used in the past and now it's free:
http://sketchup.google.com/
I've used it to design office layouts for new buildings so I could plan seating layouts.. I managed to model a floor of a multi-room office building in a few hours - and I'm no architect.
It's perfect for anyone who wants to plan an extention to their house.
