I saw this in the ASDA magazine for May which I picked up today.

I really really really hope that none of you here on the Freebies board will qualify for this freebie, but as this is such a prevalent disease, it may be a much needed treat for you or someone you know.

I hope I have put this in the right place and it should not perhaps go on the health board. I did dither a bit about whether to post it as most freebies on here are about more happy subjects, but felt this freebie would certainly cheer me up were I eligible.

Having had Breast Cancer in 2004, after my treatment I went to a "Look Good Feel Better" session in 2005. The "workshop" was a group of 3 consultants from various cosmetic companies based in stores such as Boots & Debenhams. My advice to any woman who has gone through Cancer is GO!

I went with a fellow patient and we had an excellent time, the consultants talked us through a complete make up routine helping anyone who was unsure about how to apply "Eybrows" to general beauty tips.

The "Goody Bag" we recieved was packed full of full sized cosmetics and toiletries ranging from Channel to Rimmel, most of the toiletries were hipoalergenic like Clarins and Almay. We even got a bottle of Perfume as well!
Being the money saver I am I looked up the retail prices for the products I received and it came to over £250.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the products were donated by the cosmetic companies as were the consultants, everyone recieved something different and certainly came away feeling very special!

my mums still looking her usual self but its a great back up incase she starts feeling lousy will definatly make her go then

Cancer is non-sexist, wouldn't it be wonderful if something could be offered to men who have been diagnosed with cancer. What sort of pampering would men enjoy and appreciate? They need to feel valued too, and have fun and laughter in their lives.

Thanks for this. My MIL has undergone a mastectomy today, so I've contacted them on her behalf. She's due something nice (this is her second fight with cancer).

I just want to appeal to some of the MSE'rs that don't care what they have to do to get a freebie.

Please please please don't abuse this one! It is morally and ethically wrong to do so...

I attended the workshop last month and had a wonderful time which gave me a mental boost after operations and chemo.

I'm glad I went before this was posted in the newsletter as no doubt there will be terrific pressure for places now. I too hope that people don't try and abuse this as it would force out genuine sufferers. However the visible effects of cancer on patients are very obvious and before the makeup session started it was requested that we take off our wigs so it would be hard for a healthy person to get away with it.

Do hope these workshops are not confined to those that lose their hair with cancer treatment. I've had cancer twice and didn't lose my hair (no chemo), and my darling mother died a few weeks ago after her second bout, but with a full head of hair despite very strong chemo and radiotherapy. Both of us would have enjoyed some pampering.

I thought I would remind people about these make up and beauty workshops for cancer sufferers - we went to see my Mum & Dad at the weekend (Mum suffers from ovarian cancer and has just been in hospital for a few days.) I did her hair and make up whilst we were there, and it gave her such a lift, and made such a difference to how she looked, that it reminded me about the beauty workshops that some hospitals host for cancer sufferers.

P.S. - although this is in the 'Gone but not Forgotten' thread, I believe from the website that this programme is still running.
