Cheapest parts of the country to buy?

Have been speaking to different people around the UK and its amazing the price differences in house prices.
Made me curious as to where is cheap and why?
i'm guessing low unemployment areas might be cheaper but I don't think thats always the case?
Are there area fashions - your area could be in demand then it drops in favour of somewhere else?
Thanks!

There is a prog on channel 4 at the moment, Kirstie and Phils, where is best to invest!!!! (8pm, 25th April)
Might be repeated on E4 or more4 later if you have missed it.0 -
Thanks - I missed it - but I wasn't looking to invest just curious!!0

It was showing the cheapest areas, and the ones they thought were going to increase in value. The one i saw was Glasgow, apparently the city has applied for the commonwealth games, and if it gets it, house prices will rocket!!! Apparently it happened when Manchester won them a few years back!!!!0

I received a newsletter a few weeks back that had the ten cheapest places in Britain to buy a flat. They are Aberdare, Pontypool, Washington, Ryhl, Harlech, Hessle, Skegness, LLandrindod Wells, West Bromwich and Ebbw Vale. I also received another email before that with the ten cheapest places to buy a house. I deleted that a while back but I remember New Tredegar was on it.
Hope that helps!0 -
kirstie and phil's programme said that in liverpool you could still buy houses for £30k. though i imagine the area would be quite rough. there are areas of belfast with houses around £20-40k but you would need to be of the correct religious/political persuasion and also be quite tough! That said, my OH's cousin's folks who live in England bought her a house in one of these areas (tigers bay) when she moved to NI to study at Queens University and she has not had any trouble. The mortgage is certainly cheaper than halls of residence!0

I had a look on the kirsty and phil website - it read like a list of the major universities and hospitals! It list cambridge on there where as I know a professional couple, who actually work in cambridge and couldn't afford to buy a house there and bought over the border ! in Essex. I can't imagine oxford being cheap - I think their angle is just the best place to invest.0

It Amazes me how people from England describe Belfast etc as being quite 'Rough' although yes in some council estates there is some tension - Like everywhere else in the world it has its bad areas but in general Ireland is considered the nation of poets and scholars.
I lived in Leeds for for 2 years and I can honestly say even the roughest parts of belfast are more friendly. Even there people will say hello to you on the street or give you assitance if you break down in your car etc..... That just didn't seem to happen in Leeds
Anyways, as far as the cheapest places to buy I imagine in Northern Ireland we do quite well. My Fiancee and myself have just bought our first home in a little Villiage 15 miles outside of Belfast/Lisburn. Its a 3 bed, 2 reception detached chalet bungalow with detached garage and lots of garden space. The house itself is around 1300 sq feet with about a 1/3 of an acre of land.
We paid £110,000 this time last year and with only painting/flooring the house it has been recently valued at 140,000. House prices in Northern Ireland last year rose by 12 percent, as high as 30 in some areas......
get investing!

I used to live near Skegness and prices are starting to get pretty steep. Probably with the fact that there are plans to improve the link between rural Lincolnshire and London.:rolleyes:0

I was browsing in the windows of the estate agents in Great Yarmouth the other day and saw 2 and 3 bedroomed houses going for £80,000.
