Mortgages for high-rise flats...

This is something I was completely unaware of so I thought I'd bring it to people's attention, especially first-timers like myself:
I'm buying a new build flat in the 4th floor of a 9 storey building and whilst researching mortgage deals I found out that the number of storeys in the building meant that not all mortgage providers would consider me.
Egg for example will only give you a mortage on a flat in a 6 storey building. Co-op will mortgage up to 10 storeys with lift, and 4 storeys with no lift.

Hi dearjay,
Apparantly the fire risk and thus the possibility of personal injury goes up. Blame the statisticians!
We may be able to help if you are still looking.
