Dough hook newbie question

Hi all OSers
Couple of weeks ago I bought a tesco value handmixer, which comes with the whisk (main reason for buying it) and 2 dough hooks.
Im a bit
about the dough hooks. Does this negate the need for kneading? I struggle with the homemade pizza base - never do rise properly. Also I have a bag of granary hovis four in and some yeast- can I make bread with this using the dough hooks? Dont have a breadmaker, but do have a loaf tin...
Sorry, bit slow on the uptake with breadmaking!

Hi Lynzpower
I bought the same mixer thingy as you but from asda - I use the dough hook all the time when making bread - i have in fact a loaf rising just now using hovis granary flour and it turns out perfect - just follow the instructions on the back -the dough hooks mean you dont have to spend 10 mins manual kneeding with your hands

Yup, the dough hook does the kneeding. I usually find it works best to use the regular mixing blade first, then switch to the dough hook; otherwise it takes a while to mix properly, if it ever gets there.0

I dont have a mixing blade- do you mean the baloon whisk fittings?
Cheers for your replies:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Hi Lynz
Yes it would be the balloon whisks bit - I personally dont use them for bread - I use a knife to mix all the ingredients together until it is at a soft dough then use the dough hooks fot 5 mins and it works ok all the time

OK, I have a recipe that says knead for 10-15 minutes. Should I do it for that amount of time with dough hooks, or less?Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0

Bump, anyone?Getting there... A deal at a time. :T0

It should be less - 5-8 minutes. And I would advise to check the instruction manual first - many mixers are not supposed to work for more than 10min. continuously.0
