if you click the "indexed collections" at the top of the forum (the blue bar)
Then look for save zillions on cleaning, click on it,then look for "home made products" and you will see shower gloop,I have followed all the instructions.

Though not an expert - I think the 5 litres of water must be a misprint! That's an awful lot of water for one bar of soap.

Having looked around I think I must be right. Recipes I've seen for shower soap use something like 2 bars of soap to 3 cups of water (approx 700mls). I think this recipe must have been posted without checking it out.

I did think it was a lot of water but in brackets it said "at least",

I dont think this batch is going to be money saving,I think I will have to pour it down the sink  or buy a couple of hundred bars of soap and keep grating them until it thickens up. :rotfl:

I suppose it's possible that the glycerin would have an effect. The closest recipe I've seen elsewhere is 2 cups grated soap, 1/2 gallon (u.s.) water + 2 tblspn glycerin. That's approx 2.8litres of water (maybe - I did that in my head!) I wouldn't think a bar of soap would grate up (or down) to more than a cup so the recipe posted on the boarch is still using about 4 times more water than I would think was reasonable. The only way to rescue it that I can think of it put in back on the hob and simmer it until it's the right thickness.

Last night I added another bar of soap and the rest of the Glycerin,I woke up this morning to what looked like a pan of solid candle wax  I decided to give it a mix with a balloon whisk and it did look and feel a bit like shower gel.

so the recipe I used is,
2 bars of simple soap (twin pack 80p)
    1 bottle of Glycerin(100ml) £1.35
    5 ltrs water
20 drops of essential oils(I have not added these yet,I have decided to mix the gloop half and half with the shower gels we already have.

Laundry gloop has one bar of soap, one cup (8oz) soda crystals, and 4 litres of water, and it always works, sets like jelly. Hope this may help.
