    Hiya,

I watched it :) it was good ..

One thing I picked up on, surely it would have been more efficent to wire 12v lighting into the house ??

there are bound to be losses when using the invertor, the distances werent that great to need the higher voltage to transmit along ??

We had some friends that lived "off-grid", they normally ran on 12v but when they really needed something like the washing machine that only ran on 240v they would fire up the generator.

good program though, must remember to watch it next week.

  • Drat!!!! And Doube DRAT!!!!! I missed it.

Ever had that feeling that you know there was something you particularly wanted to do but that the curtains you're sewing (or whatever) have destroyed your memory?

    That was last night.

MUST PUT UP REMINDER FOR NEXT WEEK.

What amazes me is the number of folk who have the means to hand but don't use it.

I have a friend who claims to be so organic, green and environmentally aware and conscious yet he won't give up his coal fire or huge party bonfires (Mmmmm, I can undertstand that......but on the scales??????).

This friend has not only a burn running through his land but one which has only ever once in living memory been known to freeze over (that in his, long deceased, parents' living memory too) and there is an extremely powerful waterfall in this burn (just short of small river type burn) running straight down the mountain. The other natural commodity is the wind which whistles through that glen. Even on a calm summer's day there is a decent breeze at elast up the hill. It is not utilised.

    Oh well, it's their bills.

    BUT our environment.
  • Hi Vital Spark, Last night they finally switched on the water wheel with generator, now producing 2,000 Watts.

Perhaps your see it next time around.

If you're seriously interested in installing hydro power, you might be interested in the new government grants that you can apply for from 24 April. Visit www.lowcarbonbuildings.org.uk

You can also apply for grants for solar panels and wind turbines - as well as other renewable energy technology. It's not a 100% grant but it's better than nothing.
