Asda online grocery delivery query???

I have been ordering online from Asda for many months now and have an order scheduled for delivery on Friday, this is the first order placed using their new website. I have noticed over the last few days that everytime I amend the order £1.00 is deducted from my available balance on my bank account, so at the moment my account is showing £7.00 in limbo. I understood that £1.00 would be authorised on the day of delivery. This could leave some people short of funds in their account and they will not be able to withdraw their cash and I am now wondering if direct debits might not be paid because the funds are not available. I have emailed Asda but have not received a response as yet. Has anyone else experienced this as it never happened like this when I used their old website.

I have received the following email from Asda.
Thanks so much for the email.
I can confirm that £1.00 will be deducted from your bank account every time you amend or checkout the order.
However these funds will be released back into your bank account once the order is delivered. Also please be advised that this is only for authorization purposes.
I find this quite shocking as I could place an order 2 weeks prior to delivery to ensure a suitable delivery slot and during this 2 weeks could amend my order 20-30 times, so £20-30 will be deducted from account!!!
What does everyone else think and do other supermarkets work this way, I used to shop at Tesco's and they never worked like this.0 -
I have done Asda deliver several times and this has never happened. Admittedly it is a few weeks since our last delivery.
:mad:I think this is shocking, I pay on my CC (always pay it off) so depending when they refund you could have to pay it on your monthy bill and then get the refund on the next statement. Why do they need to authorise have never heard of this happening before, they don't lose anythign if they don't have the authorisation as they don't have to deliver if you havn't paid . It is like an adin charge for amending your order.
will put me off using Asda deliver in the future.:T Quidco - £210.12:j0 -
I did an order last night and altered it a couple of times, don't know if they added the £1 each time, used my son's card and don't know his online banking details to check.
Seems an odd thing to do as OP says what happens if you book a slot at the beginning of the month and gradually add to it, could add up quite a bit and make some including me (if I used my card) overdrawn.:eek:2011 Sealed Pot Challenge #1238 hoping for £250 ~ saved £743.32

Thanks lawley1010 for alerting me to this post.
Im having a dispute with ASDA at the moment (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=23163619#post23163619)
and I've asked for them to detail how their payments are processed. I can't find any T & C's online and to be honest, I don't even think they'll respond to me.
Shame really, as I've shopped with asda as long as I can remember.£2 Savers Club 2014 #74 - £4840
