in Cutting tax
Hi, wondered if anyone could help me. I'm in LIncolnshire and was unemployed as there is very little work where I live,I then found a job working for a London company as a 'homeworker'. I was employed as a homeworker and my contract specifically says that my normal place of work is my home. I've heard that I might be able to claim extra tax relief because of this..I have to use my computer and phone for all my work and I had to get broadband connection to enable me to actually do the work..and then there are things like heating and electricity etc. Does anyone know anything about this...thanks in advance for any help... x

Have a look at HM Revenue and Customs Tax Bulletin 79. This sets out the Revenue's view on what you can and cannot claim.

Whatever you need for your home work then you can claim it as expenses.
So if it's a PC working job at home, then electricity, heating, phone bill, broadband bill, cost of your PC can all be claimed.
If you need to drive via your home working position then you can claim for fuel for the period it is used for work.
If you need to post things then you can claim the costs of stamps, packaging/envelopes/paper/fuel to and back to the post office.
Anything that you NEED to do your work then you can claim back as expenses. Smile, you only get one life, LIVE IT.0 -

When I was working from home as a machinist you could actually claim for the room you used as well..dont know if you still can I think it was if you have say six rooms in your house and use one you can claim 1/6th of the rent as expenses..worth checking out HTH

Does anyone know if you can claim a tax allowance if you work a couple of days at home and the rest at work ? I have been officially allowed to do this and my work contract states this.0
