ghd hair straighteners (merged threads)

I've got some ordinary ceramic hair straighteners ( TJ Hughes best). My hair dresser tells me that these will damage my hair, and I should use GHD ones ( of which she happens to sell !!!!) I have to admit that my hair looks better when I have been to the hairdressers, but then it it always does, even if she doesn't use the straighteners. Before I spend a LOT of money, does anyone have any opinion about these? Are GHD better. Is it worth the extra money? I do like my hair to look nice, so I would rather cut back on something else if I thought I wasn't being led up the garden path.
