Had my car MOT'd this afternoon for just £16

Live near DERBY (or SOUTHEND for that matter ?) then DEFINITELY read on.
I'd recommend you continue even if you don't.

Initially I thought it was going to be restricted as some sort of "personal" special offer since an addressed invite came through the letter box last Friday.
I did have the car's MOT done at the same place last year (for £19.99)

The place is MR. CLUTCH AUTOCENTRES >>> http://www.mrclutch.com/

Firstly not all of these centres do MOTs, and the price does vary at those that do, although it appears they are all cheaper than the recommended (since 6th April 2009) test fee of £54.

NEW TEST FEES >>> http://www.vosa.gov.uk/vosacorp/newsandevents/pressreleases/2009pressreleases/1-04-09vosaannouncesnewmottestfees.htm

The MOT advert & page says FROM £25

Many centres do it for £25, some £29.99 and a couple at £39.99

HOWEVER - DERBY and SOUTHEND - £16

Use the OFFERS page >>> http://www.mrclutch.com/offers
and select your centre from the map

OR the MOT page >>> http://www.mrclutch.com/services/6/mot
and use the drop down selection box

Each centre has its own "special offers" and vouchers that you can print out.
I'm not sure if these are actually needed though.

As I said, I "thought" I'd been invited to get a £16 MOT, but I saw an advertising board outsde the DERBY branch (at The Pentagon) and asked about it.
They confirmed this is currently THE NORMAL PRICE !!!

Looks like SOUTHEND has the same deal.

Don't know how long this will last - GRABBIT while you can.

i would suspect many cars will need tyres and exhausts. they cant afford to run MOTs when they have 2 x staff looking at your car for 45 mins. they need to make it up somewhere. caveat emptor.

Thanks but I'll stick with using county council MOT centres - my car has sailed through the last 2 tests without having to have any work done on it. Council centres don't have a 'sales' side to their garages so its much cheaper in the long run as they only find genuine MOT faults. Further details here:

It only took 35 minutes and it was done by a SINGLE mechanic.
I was present and watched the entire thing.
Appears they have the very latest equipment.
Rolling road & emissions tests all controlled from inside the car by a remote control.
The four post lift had an inbuilt suspension tester.
Whilst above head height with the mechanic underneath inspecting all the links & ball joints etc. with a torch, the car was bouncing up & down and side to side as though it was running down a badly cobbled street with the occasional huge pothole.

Unlike somewhere like Kwikfit, the Derby branch is just a service bay with several lifts etc. and isn't stacked to the gunnels (already full of common stock items) with tyres & exhausts.
I'm not saying that they can't/won't fit these but it appears that it is not their prime motive.

I used this place 12 months ago when my car failed the MOT, details of which I posted here >>> http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=21320061

If you are near Basildon, the East Mayne Motor company (beside the BP Garage) do an MOT for £12. It has to be a standard car (not 4x4 for some reason) and you leave it there before 09:00 and pick it up in the afternoon

You can also book an appointment for £20 or £25 if it is a 4x4

Mr Clutch in Norwich passed my car with no horn so when I went to beep someone nothing happened - could've been dangerous. (I got the car second hand and they did the mot for it the day before i bought it).
