Hi all,
Have been using cloth nappies for years but have recently started using vinegar as fabric softener in washing machine. (As well as some of its other uses;) )
Now, i never used fabric conditioner in the nappy or towel washes due to the fact that it reduces absorbancy, does anyone know if the vinegar reduces the absorbancy too??
TIA
Ronnie

Trying to tidy and clean while the kids are still growing, is like trying to clear snow even though it's still snowing

according to all the baby sites using vinegar does not alter the absorbency of terry nappies only fabric conditioner does that
How do I wash my nappies?
Wash at 60c using non-biological powder. Washing at 60c is recommended, especially if your baby is less than 3 months old, has just had vaccinations, if your baby is unwell or if you have 2 or more children sharing the same nappies.
To keep nappies nice and soft, put a tablespoon of vinegar in the final rinse. Fabric conditioner is not recommended as it leaves a residue which will decrease absorbency.0 -
Vinegar definitely does not affect absorbency.
Go for it! Makes my dd's nappies soft even when not tumble driedGC - March 2024 -0 -
Thanks all, I am sure ds bottom will appreciate it, even if Dh thinks I am now mad putting vinegar in machine :-)Trying to tidy and clean while the kids are still growing, is like trying to clear snow even though it's still snowing

Seeing vaccinations reminded me, you all know that if you're changing nappies on a baby who has just had a polio immunisation you should make sure your polio vaccinations are up to date, mums and dads are usually asked but with so many grandparents doing child care it's best to make sure. Check with your health visitor or practice nurse, or use disposable gloves.0
