I need to be able to print.... mainly cv's and coupons etc, nothing fancy. I know some of the lexmark printers are cheap but understand the cartridges are expensive. Would pay up to about £50 cos i understand that the cheapest isn't always the best
Would appreciate any feed back on were is best to buy and your experience with more recent purchases of cheaper end printers
THANKS

For what you have to print, take a look at the Lexmark Z735,it`s at PCWorld (free delivery) or local Dixons, priced at £24-99.
It only takes one cartridge which does black and clour.
Dixons sell replacement cartridge for £14-99 but I have seen generic online for £11.
Epson seem cheap but you need 4 different cartridges.0 -
I would be looking at the cartridge prices as the priority, before the printers cost.
That's where they make their money, so it should be where you look to save it.
Refilled and remanufactured cartridges in my opinion produce unreliable results.0 -

Hi Yorkshirepud.
A few pointers, if I may.
(1) I worked on a major IT project, rolling out 000's of printers to worldwide sites, and one thing I'm certain of is that you need to focus on the cost of consumables [i.e replacement inkjet cartridges or toner]. The upfront cost for the printer is [generally] irrelevant - it's a one-off hit whereas you'll be buying consumables [typically] for about 5 years.
So, check out the cost of consumables before making your choice [there is a separate forum for printer consumbales in the "I wanna buy" forum I think.
(2) I've also registered with FREECYCLE.COM - which was recommended from this site [I'm sure you'll find plenty of references by using the search facility]. There are always individuals posting "OFFERS" of printers that they no longer need - won;t cost you anything apart from the price of the petrol to go and pick it up.
If you are happy to wait a while, you're better off keeping an eye on FREECYCLE - when you spot a printer, check out the cost of the consumables - then go and pick it up.
Good Luck

I personally wouldn't touch Lexmark with a bargepole. They may be cheap to buy but its the cartridge prices I have issues with, even the "cheap" versions of them. I would personally stick to a Canon or a Epson. I have a Canon and I buy my cartridges for around a £1. Oh and I've been using this cartridges for years now and never had a problem."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0

I like this printer (Excellent reviews):
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=96319
and the lead is cheap enough:

You can get the both above for £47.55 delivered (Super saver delivery)
Cartridges are £1.99 (or £6.99 for full set) from here:
