HELP Need to remove childs crayon from sofa

Options
Help guys, Munch has drawn all over the sofa with coloured wax crayons.

I've looked through the mega index and can't find anything specific to this, the only thing thats close is the brown paper and iron trick.

Does anyone know what is the best way to get the sofa clean again???? Its coloured crayon so will brown paper and iron work??

Please help, thank you. :o

    You could try WD-40:

Spray the area with WD-40. Scrub a little with a cloth, then use a cleanser or soapy water and wipe clean.

The iron & brown paper will certainly lift the wax .... but I fear that the heat will "fix" the colour into the fabric of the sofa

WD40 might work as it should dissolve the wax without the heat. Hang around for other ideas.

What type of covers? Are they removable/washable?

You could try methylated spirit, but test an unseen area first, in case it removes the colour of your sofa!!!!

The covers are non washable :( We brought the sofas just before munch was born, I know what you're thinking but our old one which was about 3rd hand was knackered so we brought some cheap ones while we still had any money.

I remember that last time munch got creative on the sofas it was with biro, 1st time it happened I used baby wipes and they got it out but the 2nd time (yes there was a second time lol) the biro wouldn't budge.

I've just tried to clean a small patch with baby wipes and I'm waiting to see how it dries, it didn't come off perfectly but most of the colour came off so fingers crossed that might work.

I got coloured wax crayon off the carpet the other day with 'Rustin's Cellulose Thinners - from Wilkinson's £1.59 a 125ml bottle, but it lasts ages. I find it's brilliant for getting wax, paint, oil, makeup and nail varnish off too.

Thanks everyone, I had to do it quite quickly before DH came back but the baby wipes have worked quite well. It has got rid of all the crayon in some places and pretty much taken the worst of others.

If you made some loose covers you could just bung them in the washing machine next time. Plus if you had to use detergents or solvents on a stain you wouldn't have to worry about soaking the stuffing.

now that would be a sensible idea....however you are saying this to someone who has some very lovely cabbages and roses fabric which cost her £35 for 1 metre  to make two cushions for my bed and the fabric is still sat in a bag so far all I've done is pinned it in the right shape and that was over a year ago :o so the chances of making loose covers is a very long way away lol. Perhaps I should find a sewing course and try and find a second hand sewing machine.
