A And L Hard Sell On Id Theft Protection

I recently took advantage of the great £100 freebie and 0% overdraft from alliance and leicester but be warned, when you ring up to activate your card, the "salesman" is on hard sell mode trying to get you to sign up for id theft protection, there and then and they really wont take no for an answer. I had to get really firm with them to end the phone call. when my wife rang up to activate her card the person was even worse and was very rude and mardy. yes id theft protection is important but look for it on your own terms, do not be cornered by a and l. I requested written information but the girl said we dont send any information until the customer initiates the cover. fair enough i will go elsewhere for protection. I will ditch this bank if i get subjected to these hard sell techniques again. rant over.

The Financial Services Authority regulate all Insurers and people who sell Insurance, their main objects are to ensure Insurers remain financially stable but most of all treat customers fairly.
All customers are entitled to request information on Insurance products before they buy a policy. The FSA have made Insurers standardise information so its easy for customers to see what is and what is not covered. They are really keen for customers to understand what they are buying and to ensure the product is suitable for the customer.
Insurance is in effect a contract and like any contract anyone who has any sense would want to see what terms the contract has. So the person you spoke to was being economical with the truth by saying they will not send details out.
If you wish to help prevent this happening to other customers you need to either contact the "Compliance Officer" at A&L who will be in charge of ensuring A&L comply with the many many regulations the FSA have. Or alternatively let the Financial Services Authority as they will be very interested in this. Here are their contact details.

P.S I'm glad you have the intelligence not to be bullied into buying their cover.0 -
Yes, well done for standing up to them and saying NO. It is so important that people do this. I'm not convinced it is worth having ID theft protection although do have some. Anyone care to argue the pros and cons?0

I told them I work for a bank and I get it free (I do not). That shut em up and card activated in 60 seconds.Kavanne
