What’s it all about?
If you ever dreamt of a career in astronomy when you were a nipper, this is your chance to give it a try. Oxford University astronomers are looking for help with a massive online galaxy-classification project, called GalaxyZoo.
How it works
The aim of the website’s to classify photographs of 1m galaxies, according to their shape. Your job is to look at, often stunning, photos of galaxies and decide whether they are spiral, elliptical or merging (A LOT easier than it sounds!).
How to get started
Just sign up to the site, and click on ‘classify galaxies’. It’ll then show you a picture of the galaxy, alongside different shapes, and ask you to click on the closest match. It’s very quick and easy to get started; the best way is just to try it!

If you are interested in Astronomy, this is the link to Stellarium, a free open source planetarium for your computer. It shows a realistic sky in 3D, just like what you see with the naked eye, binoculars or a telescope.

Celestia is also pretty amazing. I got it a few days ago and am still playing around with it, but if you look on youtube it really is a good free astronomy programme.0 -
