Controversial Issue:Sperm Selection service

I know that this will not sit easy with everybody out there, But I have been in discussion with a close friend that wants basically to take the guess work out family planning. I can tell that both his wife and him love his 4 daughters very much and would dearly love to have a son. I'm not sure if its legal in this country or even in Europe but he is contemplating going to the States to have the process done.

Is this legal? Does this work? or is it a total scam? if not can they go somewhere nearer to the UK to have this done?

How would that work exactly? Do they examine each sperm to see which chromosome it carries?

    Why don't they adopt?
