I bit the bullet yesterday and started my inventory. First of all my stock kitchen items, later my cleaning products
I am one of those who has made most food from scratch for almost all of my adult years so I have a massive store of grains, spices etc. I have been putting this inventory off for quite a while but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel
I am using lined A4 with two columns on each side. I will be laminating the sheets so I can write on them and also wipe my notes off.
yesterday: spices, herbs, baking spices, dried fruits, sugars, nuts, seeds, grains, pulses etc
today: cans, jars, packets, condiments. Unopened and opened
tomorrow: freezer and cleaning materials
I am glad to say that I have only had to throw away some out of date spices but I am going the CQ way and going to grind from whole spices as needed.
So far 15 tins of bogof tomatoes, 3 tins of anchovies, 8 tins of tuna, 9 unopened packs of bogof bread flour. IMO a bargain is only a bargain if I need it so I`m hoping this inventory will keep me in check

I spent a few hours on it this morning and all bar my freezer is now done. I have tried the white board pens from ikea and they work fine. I have a section at the back for use-it-up items and another for one off items that I don`t want to get in again without a need eg coconut milk. The last page is blank and I have left spaces under all the sections. I have a code so I can see at a glance if I need to buy an item
The fridge and freezer sections are blank except for items like butter, cheddar cheese etc My freezer items are so mobile that they change all the time so I`ll write and wipe as necessary
I have put the sheets and pens into a thin plastic box file and I have stored it on a shelf in the kitchen
This is certainly going to make shopping easier0
