PLEASE take a look at the following link, where you will read of an ordinary 'consumer' who not only took on the might of British Gas and won, but earned praise from the Judge for 'taking a stance against the practices employed by those who collect debt' :

I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Particularily interesting quote from Ray Watson - Consumer Director of OFT:
"Debt Collection firms have a clear legal obligation to deal fairly and proportionately with consumers. This is more important than ever given the current economic climate, when people might be suffering as a consequence of debt problems. We will continue to use our licensing powers to take firm action to protect consumers where debt collectors engage in oppressive behaviour or practices that fail to comply with our guidance."I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. Yep.Hopefully the OFT will take similar action if some of the other "prime suspects" don't clean up their game.
