Standing the pain!

I have my second physio session tomorrow morning. The last one was chat, discomfort, then a few bouts of brief but intense pain! Physio suggested something to bite down on next time, can't work out if he was joking!
Any tips for tomorrow? Last week I giggled bizarrely (too embarrassed to moan I think, it was only a hospital cubicle, not exactly private) Tomorrow there will be less chat and more pain! What can I do so that I look like a big brave girl and also don't embarrass myself?
Edit: btw it's post-op foot joint physio.
