P45/P46 and a new job

Options
A few months ago I joined a mystery shopping company. Have had no work from them. But filled in and signed a P46 saying it was my only job as I have not worked for a couple of years.

And it looks like there is going to be a full time perm job coming my way soon. So what do I need to do. As I want my full time job to have tax allowance and not the mystery shopping one.

Also in the last year I have earnt about £100 from cashback sites. Do I need to declare that as I am going back fulltime. Even though this year because the tax year is looming very fast that I would have not earnt my full allowance this time around.

Thanks in advance.

When you sign all the paper work mention it to the HR people or sign the new paperwork and say that this is your main job.

just sign a p46 with yr new job stating its your only/main job...

if you are unlikley too use your tax allowance this year it wont matter tht you are getting tax allowance on both...

having worked in tax i may be able to help more...

if you want pm or post if your happy to,

your gross income for this tax year apr 05-apr 06
and the total tax you have paid this tax year...
how much you are roughly likely to earn in new job before end of tax year april06

If you're not intending to do any mystery shopping for the 'old' company, then I would write and resign. If you don't, eventually they will get a letter from HMRC asking where your P45 from them is!

Well, that's what used to happen to me when I was doing PAYE for an out of school club! Students would work for us for a while, then just not be available, then next thing I'd know would be HMRC asking why I hadn't issued a P45! Well I would have done if I'd known they'd left!

    Leanne,

I have earnt £100 from cashback sites and that has been all my income this tax year so paid no tax.

I suspect It would be no more than a £1000 as there is only a few weeks to the end of the tax year.

I might resign from the mystery shopping job just to make it easier.

    Thanks in advance.

as your personal allowance is 4895 and you say you have earnt only £100 in this tax year you can earn a futher 4795 tax free this year..

if you have recieved any benifits like jsa income support this yr take this away from the 4795..

if you still earn less than 4895 ie,

    £100 mystry shopper
    £1000 new job
    £1000 jsa

then you wont be due to pay any tax at all...

what will happen if you sign a p46 is you should go on a 489l code so will pay some tax..
in april you will be entitled to a rebate of any tax paid as you will be below threshold..

    hth

sorry if i confused anyone its hard to explain lol

    any questions just ask :)

Hi,i was hoping someone would be able to help!
I would like to start some work with a company called DQM basically they use your address to monitor junk mail levels. All this is over the internet so i did not think that i would have to fill out a p46 as its only a very small amount of money i.e 25p per junk letter posted and the most i will be getting are 3 or 4 per week, they only pay you when you reach £25.
I do not know how much tax and NI will be deducted so i dont know if it is worth the bother!
I am a stay at home mum and do not work and have not done so for 6 years.
If any body has any advice on tax and NI please help!
    Thanks
