Afternoon or evening work

Options
Does anyone know which shops (apart from supermarkets) employ people evenings or afternoon? I cannot work mornings. I would be able to start from 1pm or would be willing to work evenings up till 11pm. I do not want to work in a supermarket because they want you to work 10pm to 2am and that is too late for me to finish.

I would be quite happy shelf filling or similar although I do have retail experience

  • Homebase are open to 8, and 9 on a Friday and the staff work for half an hour after closing. I would imagine most DIY stores are the same. I used to work a replenishment shift at M&S until 8pm each evening, they may still do that.

Look for the supermarkets and big retailers - they often need people to replenish the shelves in the afternoons and or evenings! How about after school clubs if you have experience with children?

I worked in an independant grocery store started at either 4pm or 6pm finished at 11pm.
(Any evening of week plus daytime shift Sunday)

Worked at a local off licence chain 5pm-10pm
(Any evening of week plus some daytime shifts at wekends)

My favourite. Only packed in to have 2nd child
Worked at Focus Mon -Fri 5pm-8pm no weekends and only a 3 hour shift, home in time to have evening meal with hubby.

Our local co-op also has people on shifts that finish at 10pm but nmay require some weekend working.

Have you not got a local retail park near you?

Or a local shopping centre that opens for late night shopping.

There are lots of shops that open late nights now.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

Thanks for all replies. I will contact business on retail park - not particularly close but can get there (I don't drive), Also never thought of Co-op - have on really close.

I think I will send out some letters and cv's to people like M&S, Boots etc see what happens. I have been told by a couple of people who work evenings at Tesco that a lot of shops are not recruiting at present cos things are pretty bad in the retail sector but I shall keep my fingers crossed

When I was in my local Tesco the other day they were advertising for all sorts of staff and when I was in the local Asda last they were too - its always worth a try! Keep your hopes up!

Try local insurance companies, I have worked evenings at two in different areas that we've lived in. They just need people to process the simple bits of work and to clear the backlogs that build up whilst day staff are on the phones. Only very basic computer skills are needs, each company has its own system anyway, so you always get trained.

Also near us at the moment one of the warranty companies are looking for evening staff for basic processing and/or phone work.

    Good luck!
