hi all
have just got an application form through for a job i would really like, however, one of the questions is about behavioural competencies and asks for evidence of experiences on the key area of Respect for Diversity, whereby, i have shown respect no matter what their position, appearance, background etc.
to be honest, i have never been aware that i have made judgements about people based on those things, but now i have been asked to think about it, am struggling with the type of response i should put, would be grateful for any ideas
ps. grammar/flow will be better on form!!

There are a number of areas to cover here.
How about considering how you would deal with a female employee who has children of school age who needs to have flexible working hours and needs your tolerance and patience on coming in late, going home at a moments notice to pick up sick kids, etc?
Have you any experience dealing with a disabled person, who needs specific equipment to carry out a job. Different desk, computer equipment - access to larger toilet facilities for a wheelchair?
How about someone who needs time to pray during the day because of their religion and handling other staff to ensure that they are respectful of this requirement?
How about have you helped a fellow employee by checking their work for them because they are dyslexic and have trouble with spelling or trouble with numerics?
Does any of that help.
It would be helpful to know if you are in (or going for) a managerial post, as some of the answers will need to be tailored accordingly.0 -
thanks for this, its a great help, i can cover at least 2 areas and has actually triggered a 3rd in so much as i help organise a sports team for kids from low income families, the job is for a behind the scenes, police staff position (no experience necessary, i hasten to add)!!
its only when you seek help do you get someone else's perspective - thanks0
