Your best way of information would be to maybe contact the biggest taxi firm in the local city

However this information is from the learndirect website:

No formal qualifications are necessary to become a taxi driver. However, you must obtain a licence to operate from your local licensing authority (the Public Carriage Office in London and the DVLNI in Northern Ireland).
Every licensing authority has its own conditions of licence.
    These usually include:

    passing a criminal records check
being over 21 (18 in Northern Ireland)
passing a geographical knowledge test, in some areas
    having a medical assessment
having held a full driving licence for at least 12 months (3 years in London).

Most drivers are self-employed and have bought their own vehicle. Alternatively, they may be employed by an operating company, which owns the vehicles and then progress to buying and driving their own vehicle. Self-employed drivers, can progress to become an operator and increase earnings by running a private hire firm, employing other drivers. In England and Wales this requires an operator''s licence, obtained from local authorities

i was actually a taxi driver years ago and i learnt the hard way that the money is not a normal type wage some times are brilliant so times are dead. i started working on christmas eve so i was shocked when the christmas holidays were over and fares were not fare and half and there were no christmas parties for people to go to.

the other thing to remember is that your car needs to be in very good condition, clean, with no dents etc. most council expect the cars to be under a certain age. each car has to be moted by the councils own people that is way stricker than the usual mot.

if you work self employed you have to pay "runing in" money, this is a certain amount so that you are given the jobs. you will also be responsible for your own tax and stamp etc.
