Mental Health Support Thread 2009

Hi guys!hello.gif
I hope we're all in fine fettle this morning?
Now I hope no-one will think of me as being too presumptuous, but I wanted to respond to this post on the Depression Support Thread yesterday, by MSE Andrea...

Hi guys
Just a wee reminder to everyone that we can't allow any posts anywhere on this forum (not just this thread) that discuss medications and their uses.
I think it may be a good idea if someone started a brand new thread for the new month?
Have a good weekend

I couldn't agree more hunnie and that's why I'm posting now.:T Fresh starts and a bit of spring cleaning are always a good idea.;)
I thought that maybe we could give the thread a new name to go along with it's fresh start? How about 'Mental Health Support Thread 2009'? I just thought it might be nice not to limit the title to ''Depression Support''? There are many kinds of mental ill health and it's a very personal and individual situation for everyone. Not only that, but I know carers, families and friends of people with mental ill health also need supprt and resources too. Mental ill health can affect everyone around the person who has been diagnosed with it.
Just to underline something we should all know off by heart, we can't talk about meds and tbh, that isn't what the thread is meant to be for. There's a whole host of very understanding and welcoming regulars and newbies that make up the clan as it were, and we're there to support each other and explain or suggest possible professional resources, such as your gp, that may help you.
MSE Martin has been working with debt and mental health, which so often go hand in hand, and there is so much free help and support to approach out there, to help anyone with a mental ill heath issue to manage their money, debts and also many other situations. And as many of us will know from personal experience, these resources can be hard to find until you happen to accidentally stumble across them. It surprises some people to know for example that you can be registered as being disabled purely on mental ill health grounds alone, as well as on having physical and mental ill health grounds.
Many have had courage to post on the thread previously and everyone has received a warm welcome. It can be quite daunting and overwhelming to be diagnosed with mental ill health and it often comes out of the blue. I'm sure you've all seen the quotes of there being ''1 in 4'' people who have, or who will have, some kind of experience with mental ill health. It can really help to know that there are many, many people out there who've been in a similar position and that you're not the only one. It really can happen to anyone.
Just as there are different people from all walks of life on the MSE forums, there are also people from all walks of life on the thread, with a whole range of experiences.
And yes, we do also manage to have a laugh in between all the serious stuff too. I hope you'll join in and say hello - everyone is more than welcome.
Be kind to yourself, guys.sLo_hug2.gif
